Land assessment is a specific requirement for the land use. Land assessment results provide the information on land types and natural conditions (land map units) so that we can evaluate the suitability of the land area for agricultural and non-agricultural use. In agriculture, appropriate crops for the land area are usually designed based on the land assessment data.

Agro-land Suitability is a process of evaluation of agriculture land, which measures the degree of appropriateness of agricultural land for the use of particular crop that can best support that crop to be grown and maximise the yield. The aim of this study was to find the suitable land for rice so that yield of rice get maximise and fulfill the demand of growing population. The study was carried in Bhal region of Gujarat, where agriculture is preferred as mainstay but production get fluctuated due to improper selection of cultivated crop.

Weeding consists of uprooting and removal of unwanted plants which grow in a filed with a cultivated crop competing with the crops for moisture and plants nutrients. Suitable mechanization technology is needed to reduce drudgery and to enhance time lines of operation. Hence a study was conducted to evaluate the performance of power weeder, wheel hoe and star weeder under dry land condition.

The present study was undertaken to prepare land use plan for Dorika watershed of Sivasagar District in Assam based on soil site suitability evaluation of crops. The area coverage of this watershed comprises between 260 ׳48 to 270 ׳03 N latitude and 940 ׳27 to 940 ׳52 E longitude. The watershed boundaries were delineated based on Survey of India toposheet (1:50,000) no. 83J/13, 83J/9, 83I/12 and I/8 and. R2 L4 MX Remote sensing data.

Twelve watershed projects located in six distressed districts of Karnataka (India) were evaluated. Various soil and water conservation (SWC) measures were implemented in the watersheds by concerned project implementing agencies (PIAs). Many lacunas and technical errors were observed in respect of executed SWC measures in the field while carrying out the evaluation work. Field observations on SWC measures related to site suitability, catchment, adequacy of design, quality, stability, siltation, vegetation, etc. are presented in this paper.

This paper reports Participatory Land Use Planning (PLUP) methodology developed by integration of farmer’s preference through PRA, bio-physical evaluation of soils by land evaluation and socio-economic resources and tested in Eastern Maharashtra plateau of Central India. The study revealed that land use planning is dependent not only on the soil suitability criteria but also on the market forces, economic situation of the farmer, short term family needs, level of perception, social status, proximity and fragmentation of land and migration (labour).

Major rice-wheat growing soils of Upper Gangetic Plains, India were studied and evaluated by considering soil-site characteristics by using qualitative and quantitative methods. The qualitative method employed were USDA land capability classification and land suitability classification, while the quantitative evaluation method includes Riquier's parametric approach. The land evaluation methods indicated that information on production potential of soils provide a basis for comparison among different soils.

This work aimed to establish indicators used to assess vulnerability (V) due to inundation on the basis of considering the exposure (E), sensitivity (S) and adaptive capacity (AC) of a system. By literature review, data analysis, and expert methods, 33 indicators for assessing vulnerability due to inundation were established, including 4 E, 11 S (divided into 4 groups: society, economic, environment, and land use), and 18 AC indicators (divided into 4 groups: human, financial, infrastructure, and society).
