Hill rices (Oryza sativa L.) are direct seeded rices grown on hill slopes of different gradients. These landraces have evolved under rainfed and harsh environmental conditions and may possess genes governing adaptation traits such as tolerance to cold and moisture stress.

In the present study "Screening of salt tolerance potential of a panel of Vietnamese rice landraces at seedling stage", thirty three Vietnamese rice landraces at seedling stage were evaluated for their salt tolerance at ve salinity levels of 0 mM, 100 mM, 150 mM, 200 mM, and 250 mM NaCl. Plants were grown in hydroponics with salt application at the fourth leaf stage.

This study aimed to obtain information on yield potential, adaptability, and stability of superior lines resulting from inbred landraces with superior varieties. These lines are recommended to be widely adapted to the environment of rainfed lowland irrigated rice and dry land as candidates for new varieties.

Soil salinity is one of the primary causes of yield decline in rice. Pokkali (Pok) is a highly salt-tolerant landrace, whereas IR29 is a salt-sensitive but widely cultivated genotype. Comparative analysis of these genotypes may offer a better understanding of the salinity tolerance mechanisms in rice.

Quantum of genetic variability and the extent to which heritable and nonheritable variations are related to the characters, determines the extent of genetic amelioration. The present investigation was carried out in kharif, 2019 to understand the clustering pattern and correlation for yield attributing traits in aromatic landraces of rice. Here 90 aromatic rice landraces along with six check varieties were evaluated for 10 quantitative characters. Cluster analysis divided these 96 rice genotypes into 4 clusters.

Sixty four landraces were evaluated for 10 yield and its component traits. Analysis of variance showed significant difference among the genotypes to all the characters under both control and low-moisture stress condition. Environmental influence was meagre on expression of characters as evidenced by narrow gap between GCV and PCV for most of the characters.

Molecular characterization of submergence tolerance genes and locus in the deep-water rice cultivars
In this study, we focus on characterize the genetic variation at the Sub1 locus and to associate its relevance, if any, to submergence tolerance among the deep water landraces. As a first step, seeds of some rice cultivars collected from North-east Indian regions were initially selected for the characterization of genetic variation. The PCR based analysis involving several genes known to be associated with submergence tolerance did not reveal much difference.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the foremost important food crop in the world especially in Asiatic Continent. It is ranking second to the wheat among the most cultivated cereals in the world. Rice has widest germplasm collection than other cereal crops. It has to be made productive through several achievements in rice breeding programme, especially in sustainable food grain production with quality concern and it is undoubtedly the most important cereal of the world providing 21 per cent of global human per capita energy and 15 per cent of per capita protein.

Mining elite genes within rice landraces is of importance for the improvement of cultivated rice. An association mapping for12 agronomic traits was carried out using a core collection of rice consisting of 100 landraces (Panel 1) with 44 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. Our results showed that (1) 76significant (P, 0.05) trait-marker associations were detected using mixed linear model (MLM) within Panel 1 in two years, among which 32% were identical with previously mapped QTLs, and 11 significant associations had.
