In the present paper, a 2D nonlinear beam element based on the geometrically exact formulation for large displacement theory of beams developed by Zienkiewicz [7] is formulated on the basis of the first-order shear deformation theory and the total Lagrangian method. The displacements of the element are described through the original (reference) configuration.

The paper "Nonlinear finite element approach for contact problems in hyper-elastic models" considers the contact problems between hyper-elastic bodies by using finite element analysis (FEA). In this study, high-order elements is used with its advantages such as less element usage, more accurate results and geometrical flexibility... The contribution of this paper is development of programs that can calculate and simulate the specific contact problem between hyper-elastic bodies.

This article aims to present a numerical analysis of blood flow in the aortic valve using fluid-structure interaction simulation. The finite element method is employed both for fluid and solid domains, and the monolithic scheme is used for the strong fluid-structure interaction coupling to solve well the two challenges: add-mass and large deformation problems.

Seismic loading has always been a major concern for any engineering structures, and thereby, underground facilities (e.g., tunnels) are not exceptional. It is due to the seismically induced uplift and instability of tunnels caused by the large deformation of liquefiable soils. Therefore, the tunnel uplift behaviors subjected to seismic loading are always taken into account in any designing stages of tunnels.

This work presents results from a numerical investigation on the influence of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) on the dynamic response of thin steel plates subjected to blast loading. The loading was generated by a shock tube test facility designed to expose structures to blast-like loading conditions. The steel plates had an exposed area of 0.3 m × 0.3 m and experienced large deformations during the tests.

The finite element analysis greatly enhances the understanding of the observations while the measurements give the finite element analysis substance. A full-scale test embankment reinforced with Tenax TT 201 polymer geogrids and weathered Bangkok clay as backfill material has been carried out. Finite element method has been employed to reanalyze all the measured data from the above test embankment. The agreement between the finite element results and the field data is quite good. The results indicate that the overconsolidation ratios affect much on the consolidation settlement.

Despite recent work to characterize gene expression changes associated with larval development in oysters, the mechanism by which the larval shell is first formed is still largely unknown. In Crassostrea gigas, this shell forms within the first 24 h post fertilization, and it has been demonstrated that changes in water chemistry can cause delays in shell formation, shell deformations and higher mortality rates. In this study, we use the delay in shell formation associated with exposure to CO2-acidified seawater to identify genes correlated with initial shell deposition.

In this paper, we present an effectively numerical approach based on isogeometric analysis (IGA) for geometrically nonlinear analysis of retaining walls. The geometrical nonlinearity is formed in the total Lagrange approach; Whereas, the material is linear elastic. Deformations are large to use finite deformation theory.

In this paper the smoothed strain based four-node flat element MISQ24 with driiling degrees of freedom is extended for geometrically nonlinear analysis of plate and shell structures. The von-Karman's large deflection theory and the Total Lagrangian (TL) approach are employed in the formulation of the elements to describe small strain geometric nonlinearity with large deformations using the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT).

The research shows that the main problem to be solved is the deformation of the foundation pit, and the deformation of side wall of foundation pit tunnel is the most obvious. The maximum deformation of the side wall of the main tunnel and the auxiliary tunnel reached the maximum at 15 m. The maximum deformation of the main tunnel is about 1.3 cm, and that of the auxiliary tunnel is about 0.9 cm.

This paper deals with a geometrically nonlinear finite element formulation for the analysis of torsional behaviour of RC members. Using the corotational framework, the formulation is developed for the inclusion of nonlinear geometry effects in a multi-fiber finite element beam model. The assumption of small strains but large displacements and rotations is adopted. The principle is an element-independent algorithm, where the element formulation is computed in a local reference frame which is uncoupled from the rigid body motions (translations and rotations) of the reference frame.

For this study, different volume fraction (vol.%) of particulate alumina (Al2O3) reinforced aluminium alloy (Al 6061) with 5 vol.%, 15 vol.% and 25 vol.% are produced by powder metallurgy method. These samples were subjected to biaxial stresses in order to investigate the behaviour of the metal matrix composites (MMCs). Microstructure analysis on the individual sample before and after loading was performed under scanning electron microscopy. The small particles of 2 µm in size have exhibited strong interfacial bonding with the matrix.

Anophthalmia is recorded for the first time in Terapont heraps. The specimen was caught by trawl net at Versova, northwest coast of India. Mature female Terapont heraps weighing 58.78 gm and 13.06 cm total length. Comparison of anophthalmic specimen with a normal specimen could not show significant variation in morphometric and meristic traits and the deformity may be congenital which has not affected growth and physiology of fish.
