  • . In this research, we present the DOAS system using the Ce:LiCAF laser for determining SO2 gas concentration in the atmosphere. The Ce:LiCAF laser has a full width at half maximum of 2 nm with a wavelength range from 286 to 291 nm and a peak wavelength of 288.5 nm. The results show that the DOAS system accurately determines the gas concentration with a measurement error of 6%. This result can serve as the basis for developing practical DOAS systems with the ability to monitor a wide range of gasses and survey many other types of pollutants.

  • Ebook "Ultrashort laser pulses in biology and medicine" gives an overview of biological and medical applications of these laser pulses. The briefness of these laser pulses permits the tracing of the fastest processes in photo-active bio-systems, which is one focus of the book. The other focus is applications that rely on the high peak intensity of ultrashort laser pulses. Examples covered span non-linear imaging techniques, optical tomography, and laser surgery.

  • Ebook "Modelling the dissociation dynamics and threshold photoelectron spectra of small halogenated molecules" outlines two related experimental techniques, threshold photoelectron spectroscopy and threshold photoelectron photoion coincidence techniques, which are utilised to investigate small halogenated molecules. All the experiments were conducted at the vacuum ultraviolet beamline of the Swiss Light Source, a synchrotron photon source, which has the advantage over popular laser photon-sources of extreme ease of tunability.

  • A series of polyoxometalate-based magnetic nanoparticles were developed as novel carriers for anticancer drugs. Characterization of the nanoparticles was done by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), wavelength dispersive X-ray (WDX), and laser particle size analyzer. Epirubicin (EPI) was selected as a model drug. EPI loading efficiency, EPI loading content, and EPI release profiles were studied. Drug loading was controlled using acid-base titration since H + was released during the loading process.

  • After their production and selection in the spectrometer, the ions of interest will be stopped in a buffer gas, neutralised, resonantly re-ionised, cooled and bunched. This will bring us in an adequate position to perform laser spectroscopy, mass measurements and decay spectroscopy of their ground and isomeric states. In this paper report on the ongoing commissioning of the detector set-up.

  • Inorganic or inorganic-organic hybrid nanomaterials have great potential for applications in the biomedical fields. Biological half-life is an essential pharmacokinetic parameter for these materials to function in vivo. Compared to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), which is the gold standard, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a faster and more efficient elemental detection method. We investigated an efficient way to quantify the metabolic rate using LIBS.

It has been found that sorption process depends on the initial metal concentration and on the contact time. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) as a spectrochemical analytical technique was used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the water samples. X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), as another spectrochemical analytical method, was exploited to characterize the remediation of wastewater.
