Ebook "Geodynamic evolution of the Southernmost Andes: Connections with the Scotia Arc" focuses on the strong relation between the tectonic evolution of the Southernmost Andes and their closest southern neighbors, the Scotia Sea and Antarctica. Some episodes are related to processes of global significance such as the opening of the Drake Passage, which is somehow linked to Late Cenozoic cooling. Many of the topics covered in the book are subjects of heated debates; as such, not only the latest data and approaches are presented, but different points of view as well.

Northern Song Hong Tertiary Sedimentary basin is a classic case study of a pull-apart basin in southeast Asia, whose formation was controlled by the India-Eurasia collision, sinistral and dextral strike-slip motion of the Ailao Shan-Red River Shear Zone and Opening of the East Vietnam Sea during the Cenozoic. Unlike the central and southern parts of the basin, the northern Song Hong Basin experienced a very strong inversion during the Late Miocene.

The Hellenic subduction system governs the entire Aegean region through the creation of a migrating magmatic arc that has existed since the beginning of the Early Cenozoic. The Karadağ Pluton is situated in the NW part of Turkey and represents one of the distinct snapshots of this subduction system during the Late Oligocene-Early Miocene Period.iod. It consists of 2 major lithological units, based on their petrographic and geochemical features, comprising: 1) main plutonic facies (SiO2 < 70 wt.

This study describes the sedimentary facies and depositional architectures of Gilbert-type and shoal-water delta deposits developed on opposed margins of the extensional fluvio-lacustrine Yalvaç Basin during the late Cenozoic. The roles of syndepositional tectonism, basin dynamics, and hinterland morphology on the development of different delta types are assessed. This asymmetric trough initially opened as an intramontane molasse basin to the southwest of the Sultandağları massif.

The Great Caucasus is a northwest−southeast-directed mountain range more than 1100 km long, located between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. It represents an intracontinental tectonic system resulting from the Late Cenozoic structural inversion of a Palaeozoic−Mesozoic−Early Cenozoic back-arc basin (Dizi basin) in response to the convergence of the Africa-Arabian and Eurasian lithospheric plates.

A synthesis of the Late Palaeozoic to Cenozoic evolution of the Black Sea region and the southern parts of the East European Platform (EEP) is presented. During Carboniferous to Early Permian times the Cordillera-type Euxinus Orogen evolved along the southern margin of the EEP in response to progressive closure of the Rheic and Palaeotethys oceans and the accretion of Gondwana-derived continental terranes.

The Caucasian mobile belt is situated in the area of Late Cenozoic collision of the large Afro-Arabian and Eurasian lithospheric plates. Extensive volcanic activity in the Georgian part of the Caucasian mobile belt took place during the Late Miocene−Holocene.

The late Cenozoic extensional deformation formed several NE-trending fluvio-lacustrine basins in SW Anatolia, filled by alluvial, fluvial and lacustrine deposits. Among them, the Acıgöl basin , is notable for its tectono-sedimentary development of a prominent shallow-perennial playa-lake setting. The basin initially subsided to receive coarse-clastic alluvial deposits, merging into fluvial systems and central shallow lakes.

In this paper, new paleomagnetic and anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) data from Miocene continental units of the Çankırı Basin are presented, with the main goal of providing additional constraints on its deformational and rotational history during the Late Cenozoic. AMS data indicate a tectonic origin for the magnetic fabric, suggesting that Upper Miocene units were still involved in the deformation processes.

The Sivas Cenozoic Basin and coeval Central Anatolian basins such as Çankırı and Tuz Gölü are characterized by both marine and terrestrial sediments ranging in age from the Eocene to early Miocene. The evaporite regime here generally appeared during the late stage of Eocene transgression and persisted through the Oligocene time.
