The mammalian adipose tissue plays a central role in energy-balance control, whereas the avian visceral fat hardly expresses leptin, the key adipokine in mammals. Therefore, to assess the endocrine role of adipose tissue in birds, we compared the transcriptome and proteome between two metabolically different types of chickens, broilers and layers, bred towards efficient meat and egg production, respectively.

Infectious bronchitis (IB) is an acute highly contagious viral disease of respiratory and urogenital system of chickens affecting both broilers and layers. Present studies suggested that HA and HI tests are more superior, inexpensive, sensitive and rapid for identification of Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) as compared to AGPT. The necropsy and histopathological examination indicated the involvement of nephropathogenic avian IBV.

Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae are important poultry pathogens responsible for high economic losses to the poultry industry in term of mortality, poor weight gain and decrease of feed efficiency in broiler chickens and reduction of egg production in layer chickens and turkeys. Serum plate agglutination (SPA), hemagglutination inhibition (HI) and ELISA are the most common serological techniques used for rapid detection of infection and the adoption of control measures of the diseases.

Avian Mycoplasmosis is one of the most substantial global causes of economic losses to the poultry industry, particularly in chickens and turkeys. Present investigation was designed to detect Mycoplasma species from suspected broiler breeder/layer using genus specific Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Hundred specimens including 50 each of choanal swabs and tracheal swabs were collected from five layer/breeder poultry farms from different areas of Maharashtra State. The swabs were inoculated in Pleuropneumonia Like Organism (PPLO) broth for isolation of Mycoplasma organisms.

The present study was conducted to record the incidence of chronic respiratory disease of layer and broiler birds in Ayodhya district of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The naturally dead birds from 10 different private farms in Ayodhya district of Eastern Uttar Pradesh was collected for 6 months (October, 2018 to March, 2019). After post-mortem examination, the grossly suspected samples (trachea, air sac and lung) were kept for further histopathological and immunohistochemical study.

The workshop focused on several key areas of small scale aquaculture in PNG. The nutritional requirements and feeding of fish, the assessment and selection of feed ingredients, the principles of formulating and manufacturing simple farm made feeds and the appropriate storage of feed ingredients and diets. In terms of lecture content, the majority of information related to nutrition and feeding strategies for fish. These lectures were presented by Dr’s Geoff Allan and Mark Booth.
