Antimicrobial and antioxidant effects of essential oils from Murraya koenigii commonly known as curry leaf oil and Cinnamon cassia cinnamon bark oil were determined. These essential oils were taken at concentrations of 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3%. Antimicrobial activity was tested for both the oils were tested against 6 microbial strains of two gram positive, 2 gram negative and one yeast and mold.

Plant has an innate ability to produce non-enzymatic antioxidants which have an important role in the metabolism of Reactive oxygen species (ROS). Several plants serve as the source of therapeutic agents but the properties depend on the plant nature. Thus, an evaluation of antioxidant activity is essential to determine the importance of a plant. Three plants Utleria salicifolia, Plectranthus vettiveroides and Nothapodytes nimmoniana were selected to carry out the antioxidant study.

Effect of lemongrass extract and oil on the bioactivity (antioxidant and antimicrobial property) and citral content of paneer was evaluated in this study. Lemongrass was incorporated in the following three ways: i) cut and crushed leaves were added to milk @ 0, 2, 4 and 6% (w/v) or to coagulant solution @ 20% (w/v) and extracted by heat treatment; ii) cut leaves were heat extracted in potable water followed by heat concentration, and chilling. The chilled water was used for soaking paneer blocks; iii) Lemongrass oil added to milk at 0, 0.015, 0.02 and 0.025% levels.

The therapeutic properties of plants, including antioxidant and antibacterial activity, have been investigated. In the present study the petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, methanol, and aqueous extracts of Diospyros ebenum Roxb. were evaluated for DPPH (2,2- diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl) free radical scavenging (antioxidant) activity and antibacterial activity.

Myrtus communis L. is a shrub widespread in the Mediterranean area. The interest in this species is growing, mainly due to its pharmacological and aromatic properties. The overexploitation of wild populations induced increasing degradation of plant cover with serious risk of loss of genetic diversity.
