Twenty rice genotypes which recorded resistant and moderately susceptible reaction against rice leaf folder were characterized by using SSR markers. Out of eleven primers of SSR markers tested, seven primers were found to be polymorphic in nature. A total of 123 amplified bands were seen with 78 % polymorphism with the primers RM 3691, RM 600, RM 14 and RM 228.

The modeling of insects/pests population dynamics is to understand how the respective population change arises owing to the interplay of environmental forces, density dependent regulation and inherent stochasticity imbibed in the system. Enormous applications of such modeling are found in natural science. It is quite obvious that excess zeros are common phenomenon in counting insects.

Ecological engineering and ecofriendly pest and disease management strategies in paddy is the need of the hour because of reduction in natural enemies population in rice ecosystem due to indiscriminate use of pesticides. Ecological Engineering and ecofriendly pest and disease management strategies in paddy was demonstrated in the farmers’ field as Front Line Demonstration in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. In the demonstration plot the dead heart symptoms was 3.63% and white ear was 0.86% compared to 13.29% and 2.

The current study highlights the importance of entomopathogenic nematode (EPN), their bacterial symbionts and their combined efficacy along with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) in C. medinalis management. In the field experiment conducted at Thenthiruperai, Xenorhabdus bovienii+ Bt and X. japonica combined with Bt found to be more effective with 80.54 per cent and 79.37 per cent reduction in larval population over untreated control respectively.

Field trials were conducted during the kharif season of 2016 and 2017 in the farmers’ field of Kalain and Borkhola development block of Cachar district of Assam for evaluation of efficacy of insecticides and biopesticides against rice stem borer and leaf folder in the field of High Yielding Variety (HYV) rice, Ranjit. The experiment comprised of 4 treatments including the farmers practice (FP). The study revealed that, lowest mean percentage of infestation of rice stem borer and leaf folder i.e. 3.52 and 2.58 per cent was recorded after 90 days of application with 85.27 and 89.

This survey was conducted in rice field during kharif season of year 2017 at Pusa farm of Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar. The important egg parasitoids of major insect pest of rice were observed for stem borer egg mass and leaf folder egg mass. The dominant egg parasitoid actively present throughout the kharif season on stem borer eggs was Trichogramma japonicum, it was found most active during the 33rd standard week of August 51.42% and least active in the 30th standard week of July 3.03%.

A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural College Farm, Bapatla to test the efficacy of some recommended insecticides and fungicides as a tank mix application. Two insecticidal treatments (chlorantraniliprole @ 0.3 ml l-1 and chlorpyriphos @ 2.5 ml l-1 ) and two fungicidal treatments (tricyclazole @ 0.6 g l-1 and isoprothiolane @ 1.5 ml l-1 ) with an untreated control were replicated thrice in a simple randomized block design. The results showed that all the insecticide and fungicide treatments alone and in combination were found superior over untreated check.

The insecticidal chimeric cry2AX1 gene was introduced into rice indica cultivar ASD16 with a view to impart resistance to a major lepidopteran pest, rice leaf folder. A total of 17 putative transgenic events were generated with two different constructs harbouringcry2AX1 gene and all of them were found to be positive for cry2AX1and hptII genes. The Cry2AX1 protein expression in T0transgenic rice events ranged from 0.021 to 0.093 μg/g of fresh leaf tissue.
