Sleep-related painful erections are characterized by deep penile pain that occurs during erections in the rapid eye movement stage of sleep. We considered that the occurrence of sleep-related painful erections was related to chronic myeloid leukemia and the case might be secondary sleep-related painful erections.

Noma is a rare disease that occurs mainly in malnourished patients in developing countries. Noma starts as facial swelling and gingival necrosis that eventually necrotizes underlying tissues including the jaw bone, leaving severe disfigurement. It is reported extremely rarely in patients with severe immunosuppression or blood dyscrasia.

Survival following melanoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) have both been individually associated with previous history of non-melanoma skin cancers (specifcally keratinocyte carcinomas [KC]). Further‑ more, melanoma and CLL have been reported to occur within the same patients.

Granulocytic sarcoma is a rare solid malignant tumor that occurs in patients with acute myeloid leukemia. As such, granulocytic sarcoma without leukemia occurring in long bones is quite rare. This case report describes an isolated granulocytic sarcoma of the right humerus in an 82-year-old woman in the absence of acute myeloid leukemia.

Lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP) is a chronic, recurrent benign skin disease characterized by histological features of a CD 30-positive cutaneous T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. It is rare, with an annual, worldwide incidence of 1.2 - 1.9 per million, and accounts for 16-47% of pediatric cutaneous lymphoproliferative disorders. It often occurs on the extremities or the trunk and rarely affects the face or genitals.

Pseudohyperkalemia occurs occasionally in leukemic patients with excessively elevated white blood cells. Early diagnosis of pseudohyperkalemia is crucial for proper treatment. Increased white blood cell fragility coupled with mechanical trauma may be the causal mechanism

The mixed-lineage leukemia (MLL) gene is located on chromosome 11q23. The MLL gene can be rear‑ ranged to generate partial tandem duplications (MLL-PTD), which occurs in about 5-10% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with a normal karyotype and in 5-6% of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is currently one of the curative therapies available for AML and MDS with excess blasts (MDS-EB).

Single-cell genome sequencing provides high-resolution details of the clonal genomic modifications that occur during cancer initiation, progression, and ongoing evolution as patients undergo treatment. One limitation of current single-cell sequencing strategies is a suboptimal capacity to detect all classes of singlenucleotide and structural variants in the same cells.

Transplantation-related mortality (TRM) is a major obstacle in allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). Approximately 60–80% of TRM occurs early, within 100 days of transplantation.

Differentiation syndrome (DS) is the main life-threatening adverse event that occurs in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) patients treated with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA). Cytokine imbalances have been reported to play role during the developing of acute promyelocytic leukemia differentiation syndrome (APL-DS).

The simultaneous Occurrence of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has been rarely reported. Most of these cases have been occurring more frequently as a secondary event in patients receiving chemotherapeutic agents for CLL.

Relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) occurring in the breast after allografting is extremely rare, with only 22 reported cases in the literature thus far. Further, the lack of a systemic analysis provides little information about this entity. We present a case of isolated extramedullary relapse from acute T lymphoblastic leukemia (ATLL) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) accounts for more than two thirds of leukemia during pregnancy and has an incidence of 1 in 75,000 to 100,000. Its clinical management remains a challenging therapeutic task both for patient and medical team, given to the therapy-attributable risks for mother and fetus and the connected counseling regarding pregnancy continuation.

Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is considered to be a large challenge for clinicians due to the variable overlaps of symptoms with other severe diseases and a high rate of mortality. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are crucial to avoid a fatal outcome.

TP53 mutations occur in only about 3% of primary and 10–20% of relapse B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (BCP-ALL). However, alternative mechanisms may contribute to functionally impairing the p53 pathway in the absence of a mutation.

It has been shown that bcl2, bcl-XL and mcl-1 protein levels are high in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells, and resultantly, apoptosis does not occur chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells. Apelin and apela (ELABELA/ELA/Toddler) are two peptide ligands for a class A G-protein coupled receptor called apelin receptor.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is characterized by the accumulation of Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) myeloid cells. Ph+ cells occur via a reciprocal translocation between the long arms of chromosomes 9 and 22 resulting in constitutively active Bcr-abl fusion protein.

This book describes different perspectives of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The approach includes aspects of molecular epidemiology, particularly molecular features that influence the genesis and prognosis of the disease. Some aspects of the prognosis of lymphoblastic leukemias are very detailed, highlighting the use of molecular biology in the early identification of complications that may occur in diseased patients.

It is possible that once efficient human-to-human transmission of H5N1 occurs certain countries may close their borders sporadically believing (rightly or wrongly) that this measure would be effective in reducing the spread of influenza. Screening (with quarantine measures) could be established at borders. If justified by risk/benefit analysis it may be advisable to request employees to consider postponing non-essential travel outside Canada when the pandemic starts. Arrangements may also be required for employees who are stranded outside of the country because borders are closed.

Hermanson and Citro conclude that between 1989 and 1995, noteworthy progress had been made in the housing conditions of older persons. Furthermore, the increase in the number of older households headed by persons aged 75 and older occurred entirely among owners, indicating that the elderly had been able to increasingly age in place. Housing quality for the elderly remains relatively high. The authors, however, conclude that some problems yet remain.
