Line demonstration in greengram crop

Front line demonstration is an appropriate means for demonstration as well as transfer of improved agricultural innovations to the farming community. It provides an opportunity to researchers and extension personnel for understanding the farmer’s resources and requirement to modify the technologies for easy adaptability at farmer’s fields. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ganjam-II has conducted Cluster Front Line Demonstration on greengram at farmers’ fields in the adopted village Rajanapalli during Rabi 2017.

Pulses are important food crops for human consumption and animal feed. The total production of pulses in the world was 14.76 billion tones from the area of 14.25 billion hectares in the year 2014-15 while in India total pulses production was 18.58 million tons from the area of 23.63 million hectares in the year 2016-17 (DES 2017). The study in total 65 frontline demonstrations were conducted on farmers’ fields in villages viz.

Pulses being rich in quality protein, minerals and vitamins are inseparable ingredients of diet of majority of Indian population. Despite of their high nutritive value and important role in sustainable agriculture desired growth rate in production could not be witnessed. The domestic production of pulses is consistently below the targets and actual domestic requirements are also higher, due to this pulses are being imported.
