To increase the chances of finding efficacious anticancer drugs, improve development times and reduce costs, it is of interest to rank test compounds based on their potential for human use as early as possible in the drug development process. In this paper, we present a method for ranking radiosensitizers using preclinical data.

We propose a gene-level association test that accounts for individual relatedness and population structures in pedigree data in the framework of linear mixed models (LMMs). Our method data-adaptively combines the results across a class of score-based tests, only requiring fitting a single null model (under the null hypothesis) for the whole genome, thereby being computationally efficient.

Haplotypes combine the effects of several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with high linkage disequilibrium, which benefit the genome-wide association analysis (GWAS). In the haplotype association analysis, both haplotype alleles and blocks are tested.

The paper presents the results of the research to determine the rotation mass coefficient of Hyundai Starex by theory (based on the experimental data set of rotation details of the crankshaft mechanism, components of the drivetrain system and use of Inventor software) combined with experimentation (test vehicle on a roller test bed). The research results are used as input parameters for simulation models, calculating parameters for evaluating the quality of linear motion dynamics of Hyundai Starex cars.

Gene set analysis (GSA) methods test the association of sets of genes with phenotypes in gene expression microarray studies. While GSA methods on a single binary or categorical phenotype abounds, little attention has been paid to the case of a continuous phenotype, and there is no method to accommodate correlated multiple continuous phenotypes.

A multivariate genome-wide association test is proposed for analyzing data on multivariate quantitative phenotypes collected from related subjects. The proposed method is a two-step approach. The first step models the association between the genotype and marginal phenotype using a linear mixed model.

Although microarray studies have greatly contributed to recent genetic advances, lack of replication has been a continuing concern in this area. Complex study designs have the potential to address this concern, though they remain undervalued by investigators due to the lack of proper analysis methods.

In this article, the considered problem of Cauchy reaction diffusion equation of fractional order is solved by using integral transform of Laplace coupled with decomposition technique due to Adomian scheme. This combination led us to a hybrid method which has been properly used to handle nonlinear and linear problems. The considered problem is used in modeling spatial effects in engineering, biology and ecology. The fractional derivative is considered in Caputo sense. The results are obtained in series form corresponding to the proposed problem of fractional order.

In this paper, a robust PI controller in combination with a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is proposed to control a two-wheeled inverted pendulum robot (TWIPR) such that it is kept balanced while moving. The proposed TWIPR control system consists of two control loops. The inner loop has two PI controllers for two DC motors’ currents, which are separately designed based on a robust PI controller structure. The outer loop contains a LQR controller for the tilt angle, heading angle and position of the TWIPR.

A critical question that banking supervisors are trying to answer is what is the amount of capital or liquidity resources required by an institution in order to support the risks taken in the course of business. The financial crises of the last several years have revealed that traditional approaches such as regulatory capital ratios to be inadequate, giving rise to supervisory stress testing as a primary tool.

An attempt was made to study the soil water movement under two type of plastic mulch (black and white) with drip irrigated eggplant on a line source dripper. Both spatial and temporal variation of wetting pattern was determined in sandy loam soil using surfer 15 software. The layout of the experiment was three treatments tested, black mulched drip irrigation (BM+DI), white mulched drip irrigation (WM+DI) and drip irrigation without mulching. The results of the study indicated that DI + BM and DI + WM treatments distinctly decreased water applied in the order of DI + WM < DI + BM < DI.

TCP over wireless networks is challenging due to random losses and ACK interference. Although network coding schemes have been proposed to improve TCP robustness against extreme random losses, a critical problem still remains of DATA–ACK interference. To address this issue, we use inter-flow coding between DATA and ACK to reduce the number of transmissions among nodes. In addition, we also utilize a ‘‘pipeline’’ random linear coding scheme with adaptive redundancy to overcome high packet loss over unreliable links.

This filter uses bearings only measurements to estimate the target state in passive target tracking scenario. This work combines the MGEKF and the iteration method. The filter utilizes the updated state to re-linearize the measurement equation. Then the proposed work is tested in a two dimensional scenario. The simulation study compares the IMGEKF and some other filters to show the improvement.

This study uses what Cresswell (2003) refers to as a ‘mixed methods approach’, one that combines quantitative and qualitative data collection and a ‘sequential explanatory strategy’ in which the collection and analysis of the quantitative data is followed by the collection and analysis of the qualitative data (p 215).

In this paper we come closer to this strategy as we test the hypothesis that a linear combination of selected past idiosyncratic shocks recorded by the equity price of a given firm helps track and forecast aggregate business cycle fluctuations. At this stage we like to anticipate, however, that, somewhat against the benefit achieved by pooling many forecasts suggested by this strand of literature, our conclusions are that pooling individual information does not typically represent a good alternative to a situation in which instead a small number of regressors (i.e.
