Ebook "The mesoscopic theory of polymer dynamics" presented in this book explains in a consistent manner all dynamic effects (diffusion, neutron scattering, viscoelasticity, optical birefringence) observed in very concentrated solutions and melts of linear polymers from a macromolecular point of view. This monograph reconciles different approaches to polymer dynamics and reflects the modern situation in understanding the relaxation behaviour of the polymer systems.

The viscoelastic model results from a homogenization procedure in which the Mori-Tanaka scheme is applied in the Laplace-Carson space for estimating the effective linear viscoelastic bulk and shear moduli of the material. A concrete material made of a linear viscoelastic matrix described by a generalized Maxwell model and containing distributed spherical elastic inclusions and pores is adopted as a simplified representation of the material under consideration.

Mechanical behaviour of bituminous mixtures is characterized by the great thermal sensitivity and the large viscous effects. This paper focuses on the linear viscoelastic (LVE) behaviour of bituminous mixtures that is considered for pavement design. The studied material is a GB3 mix (GB in French is “Grave Bitume”) which is often used for base course construction in France.

We consider an inverse problem for determining an inhomogeneity in a viscoelastic body of the Zener type, using Cauchy boundary data, under cyclic loads at low frequency. We show that the inverse problem reduces to the one for the Helmholtz equation and to the same nonlinear Calderon equation given for the harmonic case. A method of solution is proposed which consists in two steps : solution of a source inverse problem, then solution of a linear Volterra integral equation.

This paper presents a numerical method for dynamic calculation of third order systems involving fractional operators. Using the Liouville-Rieman’s definition of fractional derivatives, a numerical algorithm is developed on base of the well-known Newmark integration method to calculate dynamic response of third order systems. Then, we apply this method to calculate linear vibrations of viscoelastic systems containing fractional derivatives.
