Linguistic situation

Genre analysis is one of the levels of discourse analysis in the light of Systemic Functional Linguistics. Martin (2007) proposed three strata in approaching discourse including the context of culture, situation, and discourse semantics (lexico-grammar). This paper examined the Generic Structure Potential (GSP) of Japanese precedents under the theory proposed by Hasan (1989) and then, provided some attention to characterizing other legal discourses.

This article highlights the linguistic scenario of multilingual Nepal, and measures the vitality levels of overall languages in general and Kirati languages in particular on the basis of Expanded Graded Intergenerational Disruption Scale (EGIDS) used by Lewis and Simons (2010) derived from Fishman's Graded Intergenerational Disruption Scale (GIDS 1991). The paper discusses a recent extension of the linguistic framework of the Rosetta system. The original framework is elegant and has proved its value in practice, but it also has a number of deficiencies, of which the most salient is the impossibility to assign an explicit structure to the grammars.
