  • Tabuk City in Kalinga, Philippines is a melting pot of diverse ethnolinguistic groups. Kalinga alone is known for its unique 46 ethnic groups, which include nine (9) in the locale of Tabuk City - Biga, Culminga, Dallak, Ga’dang, Guilayon, Malbong, Minanga, Nanong, and Tobog. Observations tell that these indigenous languages profess similarities that members of these groups do understand each other though they make use of their own indigenous language.

  • This study explores the lexico-grammatical features of the abstracts of research articles (RAAs) in the field of applied linguistics. The data for this study is 30 RAAs from the two journals - English for Specific Purposes Journal (ESPJ) and TESOL Quarterly Journal (TSQJ). The analysis was based on Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) as an analytical tool and confined to three systems of transitivity, modality and thematisation.

  • Universities worldwide have been rapidly utilising English-medium instruction (EMI) in the age of globalisation and internationalisation for its various benefits. Different aspects of EMI implementation have been studied, yet linguistic features of EMI lectures are still under consideration, especially in the context of Vietnam.   • This study was intended to provide sufficient information about syntactic features of the noun phrase in English and Vietnamese and clarify the similarities and differences between them as well. The results show that both English and Vietnamese noun phrases have a head noun; a noun phrase may consist of only one word in both languages; a noun phrase can be made from 2 nouns.
