Warm winter and hot spring attributed to global warming affected floral development and may induce floral abortion, resulted in poor flowering in litchi. To identify genes potentially involved in litchi floral abortion, six RNA-sequencing (RNA-Seq) libraries of the developing panicles (DPs) under low temperature (LT) conditions and the shrinking panicles (SPs) under high temperature (HT) conditions were constructed.

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of edible coating and packaging material on physiological and sensory quality of litchi fruits. For this, mature litchi fruits were harvested from HRC, Patharchatta and the selected fruits were treated with Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum and Methyl cellulose (low viscosity and high viscosity)as edible coating at different concentration (0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, 2.5%) and stored at 4 ± 1 °C under 90 ± 5% RH.

The basic and strategic research programs in litchi aim at developing technologies for enhancing productivity, quality, facilitating processing and value addition for increased net returns. The present literature has been, therefore, reviewed to clear the concepts and approaches involving the use of PGRs paving way for future litchi production. Physiological changes such as heavy fruit drop or early abscission in litchi might be due to the lack of hormones needed for the embryo and fruit development, lack of pollination and/or fertilization etc.

Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn) is an evergreen subtropical fruit, known for its deliciously flavoured and juicy aril, high nutrition and refreshing taste. Owing to its growing popularity, new orchards are coming up in different traditional and nontraditional area. Quality of litchi fruit is an important component for market value and is influenced by many factors including nutrient and microenvironment management.

Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is one of the major crops of India having high demand both in domestic and international market. Availability of genuine planting material at low cost is one of the major issues for area expansion under this crop. Currently the widely adopted method of propagation is air layering, which is practiced mostly during the monsoon season, as a result only limited numbers of planting materials are generated. The success rate of air layering is dependent upon various factors like season, hormones, physiology and environmental condition.

Litchi has a high commercial value due to its bright color and rich nutrients. However, it deteriorates with the pericarp turning brown within 1–2 days after harvest. The factors that mediate litchi fruit senescence are complicated.

Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) fruit is generally recognized as “Queen of the fruits”. It is highly prized for its excellent quality, pleasant flavour, juicy pulp and attractive red peel colour. Despite of its commercial importance, the study on breeding aspect particularly genetic improvement of available germplasm is lacking.

Litchi is a very important fruit of the Indian subcontinent and has a great demand in local and international market. But it is a very troublesome plant to cultivate and the current production rate cannot meet the growing demands of litchi. The in vitro techniques can be used to rapidly increase production. The present study was carried out to develop a rapid micropropagation protocol for litchi by studying the effect of medium and the explant used.

Biological control represents an important approach to manage plant diseases. Blights of leaf, panicle and fruits caused by Alternaria alternata and the wilt caused by Fusarium solani are important diseases of litchi. Hence, as an alternative to chemical fungicides, biological control by Trichoderma spp. to manage pathogens of litchi was explored. The aim of this study was to isolate native Trichoderma spp. from litchi orchard ecosystem and to evaluate antagonistic potential and its biological fitness so as to develop a commercial formulation for field application to manage litchi diseases.

Litchi is considered a crop difficult to propagate through micropropagation and obtaining contamination free cultures is first and foremost requirement of tissue culture. So the present investigation was carried out to standardize the sterilization procedure of nodal segment and leaf explants of Litchi chinensis Sonn. cv. Purbi. Two surface sterilizing agents viz. HgCl2 and NaOCl were used at varying concentrations and durations.

Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) recognized as “Queen of the fruits”. It is an important sub- tropical evergreen fruit crop belongs to the family Sapindaceae. The present investigation was carried out during the year 2019. Ten years old uniformly grown “Deshi” litchi plants established at Bihar Agricultural University Sabour Fruit Research Station, were sprayed with K2SO4 and KCl @ 0%, 1% and 2% at two different stages i.e. Marble and Stone hardening stage.

In present study a reliable data bank of nutrient concentration versus fruit yield was established from survey of litchi orchards grown in lower Himalayas (Uttarakhand, India). By using mean and standard deviation, five foliar diagnostic norms were derived as deficient, low, optimum, high and excess for each nutrient of both fruiting terminals (FT) and non-fruiting terminals (NFT) based on the principle of diagnosis and recommendation integrated system (DRIS).
