Hepatic fibrosis is the underlying cause of cirrhosis and liver failure in nearly every form of chronic liver disease, and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are the primary cell type responsible for fibrosis. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are increasingly recognized as regulators of development and disease; however, little is known about their expression in human HSCs and their function in hepatic fibrosis.

A 14 year old girl diagnosed with primary biliary cirrhosis, gastrointestinal bleeding, and esophageal varices underwent an assessment of her nutritional status using SGA, BAZ (Body Mass Index for age), and MUAC (Middle Upper Arm Circumference). Prior to transplantation, her SGA score was categorized as C, her BAZ was -1.63 standard deviations, and her MUAC measured 18.5cm.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary tumor of the liver. The majority of HCCs are associated most frequently with chronic B or C viral hepatitis, alcohol intake or aflatoxin exposure. Cirrhosis is a strong risk factor associated with HCC.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease affects about 24% of the world’s population and may progress to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). While more common in those that are obese, NASH-HCC can develop in lean individuals. The mechanisms by which HCC develops and the role of epigenetic changes in the context of obesity and normal weight are not well understood.

In cirrhotic patients, variceal bleeding remains a major cause of death. After a variceal bleeding episode, mortality and rebleeding rates spike for the first 6 weeks before levelling off. We aimed to evaluate the performance of AIMS65 score in comparison with Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) score and model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score in predicting 6-week mortality and rebleeding in cirrhotic patients with variceal bleeding.

Liver cirrhosis is a well-known risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, some HCC cases can also originate from non-cirrhotic livers. The aim of this study was to identify key circular RNAs (circRNAs) associated with the tumorigenesis of non-cirrhotic liver disease.

This review article aims to examine the pathophysiology of liver fibrosis and its progression to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, as well as current therapeutic options available for treating these diseases. Furthermore, the potential use of herbal medicine and herbal products with hepatoprotective properties in treating cirrhosis will be discussed.

Bacterial empyema is a rare complication of liver cirrhosis (LC) patients. The treatment of patients was challenge and associated with poor outcome. Case report: In this article, we reported for the first time a 55-year-old patient with decompensated LC due to alcohol abuse who was diagnosed with acute empyema.

Literature review have shown that sarcopenia substantially alters the postoperative outcomes after liver resection for malignant tumors. However, these retrospective studies do not distinguish cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic liver cancer patients, nor combine the assessment of muscle strength in addition to muscle mass.

Vietnam and Saudi Arabia have high disease burden of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Early detection in asymptomatic patients at risk for HCC is a strategy to improve survival outcomes in HCC management. GALAD score, a serum-based panel, has demonstrated promising clinical utility in HCC management.

Hemochromatosis is defined as abnormal deposition of iron in body organs which can cause organ dysfunction. The most commonly affected organs are the liver, heart, endocrine glands, pancreas, joints and skin with manifestations of cirrhosis, cardiomyopathy, hypogonadism, endocrinopathies, diabetes mellitus, arthropathy, skin pigmentation, and increased risk of liver cancer in cirrhotic patients.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis is a common and often serious complication of long standing ascites in the presence of advanced liver disease. We report a case of a 74-year-old woman with alcoholic cirrhosis admitted to our emergency department with a 1-week history of diffuse abdominal pain and increased abdominal perimeter.

Flood syndrome is caused by spontaneous rupture of an umbilical hernia in a patient with tense, long-standing ascites. It is a rare complication of hepatic cirrhosis and has a high mortality rate. Flood syndrome is so named because a rush of ascitic fluid often follows the spontaneous umbilical hernia rupture.
