Immune related adverse events impacting the liver are common from immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy; however, there is little data regarding the subclinical impact of ICIs on liver inflammation. The study aims to determine whether ICI therapy effects liver attenuation and liver enzymes in melanoma patients with and without hepatic steatosis.

Chronic starvation and refeeding have been associated with liver injury (LI). We present a patient with anorexia nervosa who exhibited both phenomena of malnutrition-related LI. At presentation, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were elevated at 154 and 136 U/L, respectively, and rose rapidly to peaks of 750 and 638 U/L, respectively, as nutrition was introduced.

Duck species are known to have different susceptibility to fatty liver production in response to overfeeding. In order to better describe mechanisms involved in the development of hepatic steatosis and differences between species, transcriptome analyses were conducted on RNAs extracted from the livers of Pekin and Muscovy duck species and of their reciprocal hybrids.

Overfeeding reduces laying performance in broiler breeder hens, which is associated with obesity, hepatic steatosis and systemic inflammation. To unravel the underlying mechanisms governing the effect of feeding regimes on energy metabolism and egg production, a transcriptomics approach was carried out for screening differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in ovary, liver and adipose tissues of broiler chickens under ad libitum and restricted feeding.

Common Pekin and Muscovy ducks and their intergeneric hinny and mule hybrids have different abilities for fatty liver production. RNA-Seq analyses from the liver of these different genetic types fed ad libitum or overfed would help to identify genes with different response to overfeeding between them.

Deregulation in lipid metabolism leads to the onset of hepatic steatosis while at subsequent stages of disease development, the induction of inflammation, marks the transition of steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.

The liver is one of the most frequent sites of metastases in rectal cancer. This study aimed to evaluate how the development of synchronous or metachronous liver metastasis and overall survival are impacted by baseline liver steatosis and chemotherapy-induced liver damage in rectal cancer patients.

Accurate assessment of liver health prior to undertaking resectional liver surgery or chemoembolisation for primary and secondary cancers is essential for patient safety and optimal outcomes. LiverMultiScan™, an MRI-based technology, non-invasively quantifies hepatic fibroinflammatory disease, steatosis and iron content.

Serum transaminases provide modest predictive value for hepatic steatosis in youth. The ALT threshold for predicting hepatic steatosis is significantly lower than current clinical thresholds for predicting non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Chinese medicinal formula BNG-1, a non-specific inhibitor of phospho-diesterases (PDEs), can be considered as a potential anti-inflammatory agent. The present study was aimed at determining the effects of BNG-1 on the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in mice.

The present study aimed to examine the effects of the types of high-calorie diets (high-fat and high-fathigh-sucrose diets) and two different developmental stages (post-weaning and young adult) on the induction of metabolic syndrome. Male, post-weaning and adult (3- and 8-week old, respectively) Sprague Dawley rats were given control, high-fat (60% kcal), and high-fat-high-sucrose (60% kcal fat + 30% sucrose water) diets for eight weeks (n = 6 to 7 per group). Physical, biochemical, and transcriptional changes as well as liver histology were noted.

Fructose ingestion is often associated with hepatic steatosis and hypertriglyceridemia. The homeostasis of hepatic lipids is mainly determined by the interplay of lipogenesis and fatty acid β-oxidation. In this study, we hypothesized that high fructose intake disturbs hepatic lipid metabolism through an imbalance between these processes.

Liver biopsy is a procedure that involves obtaining a small piece of liver tissue, which is then analyzed in the laboratory. Liver biopsy may be used to evaluate a mass seen on images, diagnose unexplained liver diseases or abnormal liver function tests, and to determine the severity of the liver disease including hepatitis, fibrosis, and steatosis. Liver biopsy is an invasive procedure, and its complications are rare but potentially lethal. Therefore, it is necessary to perform liver biopsy safely from clinical aspect and to take specimen steadily from a pathological one....

This chapter introduces the history, definitional and semantic issues, spectrum and general importance of non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD). Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a form of metabolic liver disease in which fatty change (steatosis) is associated with lobular inflammation, hepatocyte injury and/or hepatic fibrosis. It comprises a pathogenic link in the chain of NAFLD that extends from bland steatosis to some cases of ‘cryptogenic cirrhosis’.
