  • The flesh fly Sarcophaga ruficornis is a pest of veterinary importance as it affects various animals reared for livestock including cows, buffaloes, sheep, and goats causing myiasis, which results in huge economic loss to the livestock owners. Various attempts have been made to control this fly using different chemical formulations. Barium carbonate is highly toxic compound upon acute and chronic exposures.   • Brucellosis is an important zoonotic disease globally that causes huge economic losses to the livestock owners and is of public health significance. Brucellosis in animals is endemic in India. In sheep and goats, Brucellosis is mainly caused by Brucella melitensis whereas Brucella ovis causes the disease in sheep. The symptoms in infected sheep and goats are abortions, stillbirths and the birth of weak offsprings. Animals that abort may retain the placenta.

  • Anaplasma is one of the most rickettsiale diseases in ruminants. Five species including Anaplasma marginale, Anaplasma centrale, Anaplasma bovis, Anaplasma phagocytophilium and Anaplasma ovis are recognized in ruminant animals. Anaplasma causes major economic losses to the livestock owner. Anaplasma is mainly transmitted by mechanical way such as by biting flies, lice and biological by different tick species and fomites in livestock.

  • In this study, 569 fecal samples were screened for parasites egg to know the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infection in this district. In our study, 50% of dung samples were showing negative for helminthitic infection. High prevalence of coccidiosis and followed by Strongyles infection in cattle, goat, poultry and rabbit. The results were indicating that all the livestock owners aware of deworming of livestock and poultry. To achieve 100 per cent deworming, peripheral centre of TANUVAS to create awareness on newer techniques in deworming like FMD vaccination to be followed strictly.

  • To study the knowledge of dairy animal owners in improved dairy husbandry practices a field survey in Bihar state was conducted during April-June’2016. Data were collected through personal interview from randomly selected 1550 dairy animal owners from randomly selected villages from Chhapra, Vaishali district of Bihar with the help of pretested structured schedule. Survey indicates that the 71.67 percentage of the livestock farmers belonged to middle age category range from 35-50 years, followed by 15.00 percent in young age category and 13.33% belonged to old age category.

  • The study was conducted in Junagadh and Porbandar districts of Gujarat to compare breeding, calf and health management practices opted by buffalo owners (n=300). Majority of farmers practiced natural service (59%), late heat for insemination (76.34%), pregnancy diagnosis (90%) and treatment of anoestrous/repeaters buffaloes (90.33%). Most of respondents attended calving and took care of calves after parturition (98%) and cleaned calves (93.67%). However, few farmers practiced ligation/ cutting and disinfection of navel cord (14.33%) and feeding colostrum to calf (33.33%).

  • The present study was conducted by keeping a concept in mind that dairy development is not feasible unless dairy farm women are trained in scientific dairy farming. The present study was conducted in KVK operational area of Rajkot district with 80 dairying farm women purposively selected who were intensively carried out agriculture and dairying activities. The study inferred that overall distribution of dairy farmwomen according to training need, 56.25 per cent had medium training need followed by high training need.
