In this study, optimised hotspot analysis was applied to detect hotspots and coldspots of 14 common tick species in Zimbabwe. Data on the spatial distribution of tick species were obtained from the Epidemiology Unit of the Division of Veterinary Field Services of Zimbabwe.

The present study on Murrah buffaloes was conducted at Cattle and Buffalo Farm (Livestock Production and Management Section), ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute. Reproductive data pertaining to post partum interval to estrus (PPIE), service period (SP), number of services per conception (NoS/C) and breeding efficiency (BE) were recorded and analysed to examine the effects of pre-partum body condition score, lactation order, age at calving, season of calving, body weight at calving and dry period on various reproductive traits.

The study indicated that 46.67 per cent of the farmers belonged to old age group of above 45 years and were illiterate (36.70 %). Majority (51.70 %) of them had dairying and agriculture as their primary occupation and had more than 10 years of farming experience. Majority of the farmers had medium categories of cosmopoliteness and livestock possession (85.00 % and 68.33 %) respectively. The major constraints faced by the respondents were lack of awareness about latest technologies, scarcity of grazing land and water in dairy farming and lack of veterinary extension services at field level.

The data on reproductive performance of 502 Nellore Brown lambs born during 2006 to 2011 maintained at Livestock Research Station, Mamnoor, Warangal district which is a constituent of Sri P.V. Narsimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University, Hyderabad, were utilized for the present study. The present investigation was carried out in four districts of Chhattisgarh state to assess the performance of Maitris as perceived by Veterinarians of the State in delivering the veterinary services in the rural areas. The study reveals that more than 70% of veterinary officers were highly satisfied with the respondents in respect to their AI target achievement, performance in conducting AI, breed identification, deworming of animals, providing livestock services in the remote areas, census work, providing first aid, report return and record maintenance.

Challenges and constraints faced by Maitris in delivering veterinary services in Chhattisgarh, India
The present investigation was carried out in four districts of Chhattisgarh state to assess the challenges and constraints faced by Maitris in delivering the livestock veterinary services in the rural areas. Most of the Maitris stated that people do not pay properly for their services (74%), people expect to provide service as like veterinary officers of the department (91%), remuneration paid by government for their service is not satisfactory (95%), and not earning enough from the profession (60%).

The study examines the problems of livestock farmers in accessing the livestock extension services of Animal Husbandry department of Jammu district of J & K state. Livestock sector plays important role in Indian economy. The dairy industry can go a long way in augmenting the income of the farmers. The present paper focuses on the factors affecting farm income. The study was conducted in the two agroclimatic zones of Punjab state i.e. kandi and plain zone. From each zone two districts, one block from each district and further three villages from each block and fifteen farmers from each village were selected randomly. The data was collected with personal interview method. The annual income realized by farmers varied a lot in both the regions.

The study was conducted in Junagadh and Porbandar districts of Gujarat to compare breeding, calf and health management practices opted by buffalo owners (n=300). Majority of farmers practiced natural service (59%), late heat for insemination (76.34%), pregnancy diagnosis (90%) and treatment of anoestrous/repeaters buffaloes (90.33%). Most of respondents attended calving and took care of calves after parturition (98%) and cleaned calves (93.67%). However, few farmers practiced ligation/ cutting and disinfection of navel cord (14.33%) and feeding colostrum to calf (33.33%).
