Variations in the population of lancelets inhabiting Chabahar Bay were surveyed statistically. Multivariate analysis of the Iranian Branchiostoma population using 5 morphometric characteristics indicates no separation of populations by locality in the study area (ANOSIM global; R = 0.2). Principal component analysis of the mean values of the 5 meristic characteristics of the present population with those of conspecifics of other populations around the world showed that Iranian lancelet populations are very similar to B. lanceolatum and completely different from the B. arabia and B.

Plants inhabiting extremely stressful mine site environments tend to be specialized and localized, where they express lower performance than nonmine site plants from adjacent areas. However, such a cost may be concealed. In a previous study at a mine site, we found mine and adjacent nonmine plants of multiple species expressed similar performances in the absence of competition. However, a lower competitive ability may be a concealed driver. We aim to test whether costs under competition could explain specialization. In a glasshouse experiment, we measured the performance (i.e.

Diabetes is a common metabolic disorder characterized by abnormally increased plasma glucose levels. Postprandial hyperglycemia plays an essential role in development of type 2 diabetes. Inhibitors of carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes such as α-amylase retard the liberation of glucose from dietary complex carbohydrates and delay the absorption of glucose. The purpose of the study was to isolate and select α-amylase inhibitor-producing endophytic fungi from wellknown medicinal plants used in the treatment for diabetes and inhabiting in Uzbekistan.

Chironji, a multipurpose tree provides food, fuel, fodder, timber and medicine to the local community. The species is well known for its kernel which has high nutritive value with rich source of fat, protein and mineral. It is free for collection, as a result of which the local inhabitants, traders and greedy merchants destroy the branches/whole trees during collection of its fruits without bothering about new plantations. This has led to the destruction of Chironji plants in the forests.

The algae are one among the biomass energy source which can be promising. The microalgae are the diverse organisms which can inhabit in different climatic conditions and adapt themselves and perpetuate forming their own niche. There is need to improve the local flora for biomass and lipid content instead of culturing exotic species. Chlorella the green microalgae, was isolated from fresh water and was characterized through molecular studies using 18s rRNA homology. The study has revealed that isolated species belong to Chlorophytes (green microalgae).

Use of biocontrol agent to increase the growth of crop has been an alternative source to meet the demand of growing population. Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are the soil bacteria inhabiting around/on the root surface and are directly or indirectly involved in promoting plant growth and development via production and secretion of various regulatory chemicals in the locality of rhizosphere. These bacteria competitively colonize the roots of plants and can act as biofertilizers and/or antagonist (biopesticides) or simultaneously both.

Vietnam is one of the largest shrimp exporters in the world. Since 2010, Vietnam has earned about two billion dollars annually through shrimp exports. As a fertile area of greatest potential for agricultural production in Vietnam, the Mekong Delta has been a major contributor to the country’s achievements, especially in the agricultural sector. During recent decades, trade liberation along with various policies in support of aquaculture has accelerated the development of shrimp production in the Delta.

There is evidence that the neighbourhood of Ripon was inhabited during, and perhaps before, the Roman occupation of Britain. Whether the place was a settlement of the Romans is uncertain; but it was assuredly in touch with their civilization, for several of their roads passed near it--notably Watling Street, on which, six miles to the east, was Isurium, the modern Aldborough; while imperial coins and other Roman objects have been dug up in Ripon itself.

It was not until the eighteenth century that the subject of this book, the pollination services of bees, began to be understood and valued. Nevertheless, the association between man and bees has been long and close, and dates from at least 2400 BC. Beekeeping with the Western honey bee, Apis mellifera, was a well-developed craft in ancient Egypt during the fi fth dynasty of the Old Kingdom.

Commodity-level analysis illustrates the size of opportunities and the importance of technology. In many African countries with large amounts of suitable but currently uncultivated land, transfers of technology could pro- vide large benefits to local populations. To reduce risks and increase benefits, greater effort will be needed to identify local comparative advantage, assess the technical viability of proposed investments, improve weak institutional frameworks for land governance, and level the playing field for smallholder competitiveness.

According to local inhabitants, garden productivity in the Upper Orinoco region was significantly below normal at the time of the study, a fact that can be attributed to the El Niño weather conditions in 1997–1998. Colleagues in the region conducted several aerial surveys, and provided convincing photographic evidence that many local gardens had been damaged by heavy flooding. During the field season, there were numerous reports of food shortages in the Yanomamö and Ye’kwana communities along the river.
