"Standard Practice for Locating the Thinnest Spot in a Zinc (Galvanized) Coating on Iron or Steel Articles" covers the procedure for locating, by the use of a solution of copper sulfate, the thinnest spot in a zinc coating (hot dipped, electroplated, or sprayed) on iron or steel articles that are coated after the shape is produced by casting, drawing, pressing, or other forming methods.

With the advantages of geostrategic location, and socio-economics, in spite of existing many “hot spots” in terms of security, Southeast Asia became the disputed territory for the important influence of many major countries in the world, including both two powers and the two largest economies in the world – the US and China.

This study is essentially important to unveil the individual drought susceptibility condition for a particular location. Detection of the composite drought hot spots will help in adopting short as well as long term adaptation and mitigation programs. At the same time, the methodology is reproducible for other drought-prone regions around the globe.

A typical example of this is old popular variety ‘Sonalika’ in India. However, Sonalika has been found highly susceptible to spot blotch. The studies were therefore conducted to assess the performance of genotypes of wheat and Triticale having Sr2 gene and its combinations with other Sr genes against spot blotch under artificially inoculated conditions at hot spot locations over years.

A total of 117 wheat genotypes from different zones of India i.e.35 from NEPZ, 34 from CZ, 29 from NWPZ and 19 from PZ were screened for resistance against spot blotch of wheat for three consecutive years (2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18) at disease hot spot location, Kalyani, to find out the most suitable varieties for cultivation for this zone.

Groundnut is one of the important oilseed crops of India. Several biotic stresses affect in achieving the real potential yields. Cultivation of biotic stress resistant cultivars is an ecologically and economically sound approach. The occurrence of different biotic stresses varies with location and season thus limiting the wide adoption of varieties resistant to one or the other biotic stresses.

The use of resistant cultivars is the most economical and effective method to control late leaf spot (Phaeoisariopsis personata) in groundnut. In the process of breeding for host plant resistance, the plant material is evaluated in the hot spot location under field conditions. But this process of evaluating the whole crop cycle demands lot of labour and time, the disease expression fluctuates with environmental conditions. Here, we present the improved detached leaf assay method for screening groundnut lines under controlled conditions.

A survey was conducted in major groundnut growing areas of Karnataka during kharif 2013 and kharif 2014 to identify hot spots of stem and pod rot of groundnut. A total of 80 different locations of eight districts of Karnataka were covered during the survey. During kharif 2013, the highest stem rot (62.80%) and pod rot (73.67%) was recorded in Chitradurga district followed by Tumkur district which recorded stem rot incidence of 42.59% and pod rot of 40.70%.

Peanut bud necrosis disease is one of the major viral diseases in peanut. Interspecific peanut pre-breedinglines along with susceptible checks (KRG-1 and TMV2) were tested under field conditions at hot spot location over two seasons. Out of 34 lines, 16 lines were found resistant, while 16 were moderately resistant. Significant negative association was observed between PBND incidence and phenol content, number of trichomes on leaf, petioles and stem. While significant positive association was observed between PBND incidence and total soluble sugar, free amino acid and leaf thickness.

Out of 419 peanut interspecific derivatives, screened over four seasons in epiphytotic field (Hot spot location) and glasshouse conditions, seven genotypes viz., CS-43, CS-54, CS-55, CS-73, CS-77, CS-82 and CS-104 were confirmed as potential resistant with least disease incidence, high dry pod yield, desirable yield and pod features besides longer DFSA, DLSA and t50.

Hot-spot biodiversity is a concentrated site of high species diversity, high species endemicity, and habitat uniqueness. Biodiversity disperses unevenly across the global, regional and regional scope. Hot-spot biodiversity developed into an approach to assessing the concentration of biodiversity at certain limits. The biodiversity hot-spot approach is conducted using indicator species such as bird species that are used as ecotourism development for sustainable forest exploitation.
