Convenient approaches for accurate biopsy are extremely important to the diagnosis of lung cancer. We aimed to systematically review the clinical updates and development trends of approaches for biopsy, i.e., CT-guided PTNB (Percutaneous Transthoracic Needle Biopsy), ENB (Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy), EBUS-TBNA (Endobroncheal Ultrasonography-Transbronchial Needle Aspiration), mediastinoscopy and CTC (Circulating Tumor Cell).

Early diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is essential to reduce the total burden of this disease. Traditionally, chest radiography (CR) is used to identify true CAP. However, CR is not a perfect diagnostic test for CAP.

Transbronchial biopsy for peripheral pulmonary lesions is generally performed under X-ray fluoroscopy. Virtual bronchoscopic navigation (VBN) is a method in which virtual images of the bronchial route to the lesion are produced based on CT images obtained before VBN, and the bronchoscope is guided using these virtual images, improving the diagnostic yield of peripheral pulmonary lesions.

Staging of mediastinal lymph nodes in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is mandatory. The maximum Standard Uptake Value (SUVmax) obtained using F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) is the best non-invasive technique available for this evaluation, but its performance varies from center to center.

A minority of patients presenting with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) to their general practitioner (GP) have community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and require antibiotic therapy. Identifying them is challenging, because of overlapping symptomatology and low diagnostic performance of chest X-ray.

Accumulation of chyle in the thoracic cavity is called as chylothorax. A five year old male Rottweiler was presented to the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Maanuthy with the history of limb edema and labored breathing. On auscultation of lung crackles and high intensity sounds and muffled heart sounds were observed. Radiography confirms the presence of effusion in the thoracic cavity. Solitary Ventricular Premature Complexes were observed in the three-minute electrocardiographic examination. Thoracic ultrasonography revealed anechoic areas, which confirmed pleural effusions.

Programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) immune checkpoint inhibitor antibody has proven to be effective in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients positive for programmed cell death-1 ligand-1 (PD-L1). However, there are currently no prospective studies evaluating PD-L1 expression for small biopsy samples.

Clinical assessment is the gold standard for diagnosis of bronchiolitis. To date, only one study found LUS (Lung Ultrasound) to be a valuable tool in the diagnosis of bronchiolitis. Aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of lung ultrasonography in the diagnosis and management of bronchiolitis in infants.

Emergency rescue lung resection is rarely performed to treat congenital lung cysts (CLCs) in neonates. Many reports have described fetal CLC treatment; however, prenatal predictors for postnatal respiratory failure have not been characterized.
