Machine transplanted rice system

Due to the diversity of rice varieties and cropping systems in China, the limitation of seeding density and seedling quality makes it hard to improve machine-transplanted efficiency. Previous studies have shown that indica and japonica varieties varied in machine transplanting efficiency and optimal seeding density.

The Field experiments was conducted at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai during kharif 2012 and rabi seasons 2012-2013 to study the effects of methods and time of sowing on soil moisture per cent in rice fallow blackgram. The treatments such as in main plot, three method of sowing line dibbling (M1), random dibbling (M2), broadcasting (M3) and sub plot, time of sowing 10 (T1), 7 (T2), 4 (T3) and 1 (T4) days before rice harvest.

The crop yield should be limited by the available nitrogen within the soil. Yoshida (1972) reported that nitrogen plays an important role in developing yield capacity and maintaining the photosynthetic activity during grain filling stage of the crop. Nitrogen application can improve the root system, so that water and nutrient absorption are facilitated.

An field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2017 and Rabi season of 2018 to study the effect of crop establishment methods viz., System of Rice intensification, Machine planting, Conventional method of transplanting and weed control practices ay application of pre emergence herbicide (Metsulfuron Methyl 10 % - Chlorimuron Ethyl 10 % )10 and 20 g ha-1 and, Butachlor10 g ha-1 and 2.5 lit per ha-1 + three mechanized weeding at 25,35,45 DAT ,hand weeding on 20 DAT, four mechanized weeding at 15,25,35,45 DAT and hand weeding twice at 20 and 40 DAT.

On-farm trials were conducted at farmer’s fields in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh during Kharif, 2016 and 2017 seasons to evaluate the yield in machine planted rice in comparison to manual transplanting. Pooled mean of two years indicated that machine planting recorded significantly higher number of tillers (23.46), higher number of productive tillers (18.02) resulting in higher yields (6686.8 kg/ha).
