  • The human population on the planet is estimated to reach 9 billion by 2050; this requires significant increase of food production to meet the demands. Intensified farming systems have been identified as a viable means to increase grain production. Crop production inputs include carbon investment in the form of energy, for the manufacture and use of farm machinery, synthetic fertilizers, crop protection chemicals such as herbicides, insecticides and fungicides, groundwater irrigation and the direct use of fuel in farm operations.

  • The study was confined to Chhattisgarh plains of 5 districts in 15 KYSK. There were 138 farmers studied those bringing the services of owners of KYSK. The sampled owners of KYSK reported that 100 per-cent demand of 60 per-cent farmers whereas demand for harvesting, threshing and winnowing of machinery was 66% that reported by almost owner of KYSK.

  • Economic growth in India agricultural sector lags behind growth in industry and services, creating an ever widening rural-urban income gap. Agricultural mechanization plays a key role in improving agricultural production and productivity in developing countries. The average farm size in India is small 1.16 hand small and marginal land holdings less than 2.0 ha account for 85% of land holdings. Mechanization small and non-contiguous group of small farms is against economics of scale for individual ownership of farm machinery.

  • Generally, energy conservation and fuel savings are related to the amount of reduction in tillage and may be quite substantial with no-tillage. Less machinery is required for reduced tillage, which contributes to the decrease in overall energy used in the crop production. No-tillage, minimum tillage and mulching have been broadly used in the modern agriculture operations which had showed excellent results in past as well as in present. These techniques have provided obvious benefits of soil and water conservation on sloping farm-land in the hill regions.

  • The mini-tractor operated drip lateral installer and retriever was fabricated at department of farm machinery and power engineering, CAET, Junagadh agricultural university, Junagadh. A drip line installer and retriever were developed for small fields. One operator can install drip line on or just beneath the soil surface to precisely irrigate crops after planting and retrieve the drip line after irrigation is no longer needed for the season.

  • Following the industrial revolution in the nineteenth century, agricultural machinery and tractors became available for tillage operations. Different types of tillage systems have different tillage depths and capacity to change soil physical properties that affect the crop yield and quality. Important soil physical properties such as bulk density, penetration resistance, water infiltration, hydraulic conductivity and soil compaction are affected by tillage.

  • Today, tractor is one of the most important power sources in agriculture. Effect of tractor power on agriculture is considerable. The use of modern technology during latter decades resulted in rapid growth of farm production. Tractors and farm machinery are important samples of this modern technology. The quality of inputs of mechanization and consequently land and labor productivity in both situations, may differ considerably. The study was planned and conducted during year 2015- 16.

  • Mechanized agriculture is the process of using agriculture machinery to mechanize the work of agriculture, greatly increasing farm worker’s productivity. The use of mechanized power for agriculture purpose reduces not just the hardship faced by the farmers under traditional manual practices but also speeds up agricultural processes, saves cost and enhances agricultural productivity. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of different types of reaper binder operational for harvesting of wheat in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh.

  • The most mechanized agricultural operations include a tractor as a primary power unit, even though the tractor itself is not particularly useful without an implement attached. Innovations and efficiency improvements in tractor engines, powertrains, and auxiliary power systems have been ongoing since tractors were invented a century ago and significant gains have been realized. However, PTO and hydraulic power systems are well established and effective for today‟s applications, the search for more versatile and efficient power transfer continues.

  • Farm mechanization helps in effective utilization of inputs to increase the productivity of land and labour. Besides it helps in reducing the drudgery in farm operations. The early agricultural mechanization in India was greatly influenced by the technological development in England. Irrigation pumps, tillage equipment, chaff cutters, tractors and threshers were gradually introduced for farm mechanization.

  • The collection of seed from planted trees in a Seed Orchard (SO) Seed Production Area (SPA) generally requires access to seed-bearing branches at heights. High lift machinery or climbing methods can be used to obtain required working heights. High lift machinery is the more efficient option, reducing the risks associated with climbing and chainsaw operation. In cases where high lift machinery is not available or too expensive, climbing is a viable option.
