Macronutrient values

This study aimed to evaluate the macronutrient values of some traditional meals consumed by some communities living in Yaounde. Methods: The study was carried out among six traditional communities living in Yaounde (Cameroon) (Mbo, Bamougoum, Eton, Bafia, Haussa and Dschang).

Among legumes, common bean plays significant role in the diet of Cameroonians. It is a good source of protein, fiber and micronutrients. However, bean contains substantial amount of antinutrients, which limit their utilization. This work evaluates the effect of different processing methods on the macronutrients, micronutrients and antinutrients contents in two bean cultivars (Phaseolus vulgaris L.).

Maize is an important coarse grain cereal in Bihar. Nutrition security in rural areas of Bihar can be achieved through development and evaluation of value added roasted maize flour over traditional roasted maize flour. Value added roasted maize flour was rich source of macronutrients such as energy (351 kcal /100g) and protein (14.10g/100g) and micronutrient such as calcium (106mg/100g), carotene (139.50µg/100g), Riboflavin (0.13mg/100g) and niacin (2.25mg/100g).

This study investigates the effect of integrated nitrogen management (INM) on yield and soil properties under cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L.) cv. Nuzi Snow White at Students’ Research Farm, P.G. Department of Agriculture, Khalsa College, Amritsar during Rabi season of 2017-18. For INM studies, organic manures viz., vermicompost (VC), farmyard manure (FYM) and recommended dose of nitrogenous fertilizers (RDNF) was employed.

In a layer system, a typical laying hen will consume feed which contains 1.1 kg N while producing approximately 250 eggs . In a broiler system, a typical broiler year (6.7 birds sent 18 to market per year) will also consume 1.1 kg N per year of which 0.6 kg N is excreted and 0.5 kg N are assimilated into body tissues . 18 The macronutrient and micronutrient (see appendix III) values provided strongly indicate that poultry manure is very rich in terms of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as some other elements.

Food can be defined as the nutritive material taken into an organism for growth, work, or repair and for maintaining the vital processes. Food sustains life, and, as such, many individuals view food as an uncomplicated, pure source of nutrition. Therefore, such individuals are often bewildered to learn that food is comprised of an array of natural chemicals, and not all the chemicals are nutrients or enhance nutritive value, but in fact may decrease nutritional value or, worse still, are toxic (e.g., naturally occurring toxicants).
