  • Recently, abiotic stress like salinity, drought and temperature are the severe problems to worldwide wheat production, mostly in arid and semiarid areas. A feasible solution is breeding for salt-tolerant cultivars of wheat, while the presence of genetic variation is a prerequisite for genetic improvement. In the present investigation, an experiment was conducted to estimate the nature and magnitude of genetic diversity in improved varieties of bread wheat during Rabi, 2010-11.

  • In the changing climate scenario, drought could be continued as a major abiotic limitation for crop productivity. Finger millet although known for its drought tolerance, the drought stress decreases the grain yield from 25 to 100 percent depending on the duration and magnitude of drought stress. Present study was conducted to explore the genetic variability of selected genotypes over the ruling varieties if any, based on the extent of reduction in grain yield, and dependent photosynthetic traits due to moderate drought stress for 18 to 20 days (grand growth to flower primordial initiation).

  • The sensitivity of photosynthesis to each of the environmental variables including low water availability, high temperature, is associated with the inevitable rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide. Plant growth responses to the increasing CO2 concentration will not only affect ecosystem productivity in the future, but also the magnitude of C sequestration by plants. The level of CO2 in the atmosphere is rising at an unprecedented rate.

  • Climate change has become an important area of concern to ensure food and nutritional security for growing population. In India, significant negative impacts have been implied with medium-term (2010-2039) climate change, predicted to reduce yields by 4.5 to 9 %, depending on the magnitude and distribution of warming. In the context of climate change and variability, farmers need to adapt quickly to enhance their resilience to increasing threats of climatic variability such as droughts, floods and other extreme climatic events.

  • Drought is one of the natural disasters of tremendous significance owing to intensity, duration, magnitude, financial damage and long-term impacts in comparison with other disasters. The evaluation of drought is aimed at identifying the onset, continuity and severity of drought. Reliable surveillance of drought and early warning are essential in preparing for drought, planning and mitigating future effects, particularly early warnings of famine.

  • Drought is an abnormal condition resulting due to a decrease in rainfall. The occurrence of drought is unpredictable and causes unprecedented damage to the production of crop and livelihood. The present study has been conducted to assess the meteorological drought situation in Ujjain district using Effective Drought Index (EDI). For assessment six rain gauge station situated in the study area is selected. Out of which station namely Barnagar, Ghatiya and Tarana have maximum extreme drought event with 8, 7, and 3 respectively.

  • Long-term drought predictions can provide valuable figures which helps to mitigate some of the magnitudes of drought. For prediction of any natural hazard previous observation and tools are required. Similarly for preparedness of natural hazard i.e. drought, rainfall data and SPI tool is required to analyze drought at different time scales accurately. The present study targets to identify drought using Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) for Ajmer district of Rajasthan using rainfall data collected from Rajasthan Water Resource Department.

  • Viet Nam is considered as one of the countries most affected by climate change. The magnitude and frequency of extreme events (such as high-intensity rainfall, flooding, severe droughts) are expected to increase in future due to climate change.

  • The magnitude of this relationship has important policy implications. If there is a positive effect of mother’s education as knowledge on children’s health, certain type of policies concerning the diffusion of specific information at community levels can be called for. For example, one important channel through which mother’s education as knowledge can affect child’s health at a community level is through the usage of health facilities which can serve as a complement or even as a substitute for the mother’s education.
