Onion [Allium cepa L.] is one of the most important commercial vegetable crops of Chitradurga district. It is mainly grown by small and marginal farmers. It is mainly grown for commercial bulb production during Kharif. Very less number of farmers goes for seed production during Rabi season with local varieties. This new extension approaches may help to farmers for technical interventions on seed production and self-reliance for quality seeds in district.

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is a widely cultivated crop in the gourd family and plays an important role in our daily diet. However, the cucumber often suffers from disease during reproductive stage that affects the output and quality of cucumber. The commercial cultivars are highly susceptible to downy mildew disease which causes huge losses both in fruit quality and yield.

The influence of different crop establishment methods and weed management practices on productivity and economics of rice was studied at College Farm, College of Agriculture, ANGRAU (Hyderabad) during the kharif season 2010 and 2011 in sandy loam soils. The experiment was laid out in split plot design and replicated thrice with three crop establishment methods i.e. direct sowing of sprouted seeds under puddled condition, SRI and transplanting as main plot treatments and four weed management practices i.e. bensulfuron methyl 60 g + pretilachlor 600 g a.

Cluster bean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub] popularly known as “Guar” is an important legume crop mainly grown under rain fed condition in arid and semi-regions of Rajasthan during kharif season. It is very hardy and drought tolerant crop. Its deep penetrating roots enable the plant to utilize available moisture more efficiently and thus offer better scope for rain fed cropping. It has high calorific and nutritive value and its seed contains 28-32% of gum.

A field experiment was conducted at research area of Department of Agricultural Meteorology, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, during the kharif season of 2013-14. The main plots treatments consisted of four date of sowing (2 nd week of April, 4 th week of April, 2 nd week of May and 1st week of June) and the sub-plots consisted of three cotton varieties (HD 123, H 1098 and RASI 134). In the 2nd week of April sown crop consumed highest thermal and radiation indices, and efficiently converted the thermal/radiant energy into biomass production.
