Population dynamics studies of pink stem borer was carried out during spring seasons of the year 2013-14 and 2014-15 at the Research cum Instructional Farm, IGKV, Raipur (C.G.). Larval population increased gradually and reached to a peak of 13.81 and 18.56 larvae /plant in 56 days (12th SMW) and 49 days (11th SMW) in spring season during 2013-14 and 2014-15, respectively.

Corn borers are the primary maize pest; their feeding on the pith results in stem damage and yield losses. In this study, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify SNPs associated with resistance to Mediterranean corn borer in a maize diversity panel using a set of more than 240,000 SNPs.

An field experiment was conducted in two consecutive year (Spring 2015 and 2016) at NawabGanj Farm of C. S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur 208002 (U.P.). The Shoot fly (egg/plants) on maize appeared in both year (Spring 2015 and 2016) from 7th to 13th standard week and the highest egg laying was found in 11th S.W. (2.83egg/plant) in above years. Stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) dead heart was observed from 8th to 16th standard week after this period there was no newly dead heart was found till the crop harvested.

Four different trap crop plants viz, napier grass, sudan grass, sorghum and bajra were assessed for their potential role as a trap crop in the management of spotted stem borer Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) on maize. Oviposition preference and larval survival tests were conducted in screen house under semi controlled conditions. Results revealed that napier grass was greatly preferred for oviposition over maize but the larval survivability was very poor.

Studies were conducted on the incidence of maize stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) at DARS, Budgam, SKUAST-K during the Kharif season, 2015. The incidence of the insect was assessed in maize variety C-15 sown in April 2015. The lowest leaf infestation recorded during entire crop season was first observed in 18th standard week (SW) (1 st week of May) with leaf infestation of 4.00 per cent while the highest infestation was recorded in 28th SW (2nd week of July) as 48.50 per cent. The lowest dead heart occurrence of 6.
