  • Northeastern Himalayan hill region of India is known to produce quality mandarin (C. reticulata) commercially. Citrus tristeza virus (CTV), an aphid (Toxoptera citricidus) transmitted closterovirus, is a major problem to cause decline of mandarin in this region. The different orchards of Mirik in the Darjeeling and Rumtek of East Sikkim were surveyed. CTV incidence of 48-53.3% in Mirik and 40-60% in Rumtek were estimated using direct antigen coated-ELISA and polymerase chain reaction.

  • Scarcity of irrigation water in critical growth stages of the crop is one of the major causes of low productivity and decline of citrus orchards. Regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) is a recently proposed water saving technique in irrigated agriculture. The present study was planned with a hypothesis that the optimal RDI scheduling at early fruit growth period (EFGP), which coincides with summer months could save substantial amount of water, without significantly affecting the yield of ‘Kinnow’ mandarin plants.

  • Huanglongbing (HLB) or Citrus Greening Disease is a widespread and serious threat to the Citrus growing industry worldwide due to its complexity and destructiveness. On an average, the disease can cause 30 to 100 per cent yield loss around the globe depending on its severity. In Assam, an important factor associated with Citrus decline is the wide spread prevalence of Huanglongbing (HLB) in Khasi mandarin (Citrus reticulata).
