The present investigation was carried out during 2010-12 to establish the correlation among flowering, pollen viability and malformation in 15 mango cultivars namely Amrapali, Bhadauran, Dushehari, Erwin, Husnara, Janardan Pasand, Langra, Mallika, Neelum, Primor de Amoreira, Pusa Arunima, Sensation, Tommy Atkins, Totapuri Red Small and Zill at the Division of Fruits and Horticultural Technology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.

Mango malformation (MM) is an ambiguous mango disease with tremendous economic importance throughout the mango growing regions. Several studies reported that Fusarium species especially Fusarium mangiferae is associated with mango malformation. Silicon is an essential element, which plays a vital role in plant microbial interaction. It deposits under the cuticle and acts as a physical barrier that protects the plant from fungal infection.

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is an important fruit crop in India and honored as king of fruit in the country. Among the several abiotic and biotic factors, mango malformation is the most serious disease causes up to 60 per cent yield losses and confines the mango cultivation in tropical and subtropical countries of the worldwide. Mango malformation expresses two types of symptoms on plant i.e. vegetative and floral malformation, in which floral malformation is very virulent and causes the loss of entire crop than the vegetative one.

In present era, breeding in mango crop are still done through conventional methods which is a serious drawback as it is laborious and time consuming. Mango malformation is a serious disease causing great losses to mango industry. It is difficult to control mango malformation disease through use of any chemicals. Brassinosteroids (BR) are known to have a wide range of functions to biotic and abiotic stresses.

Mango malformation, a century old malady of Mangifera indica, is considered as the major constraints for mango production worldwide. Several reports claimed that Fusarium species particularly Fusarium mangiferae is associated with mango malformation. Salicylic acid is an important signaling molecule that plays crucial role in plant microbial interactions. The present study was conducted to observe in-vitro application of different concentrations of salicylic acid on mycelial growth and conidial germination of two isolates of Fusarium mangiferae.

Diagnostic tests by molecular biology is made for studying the relations among Fusarium species for linking production of proteins, degree of relationship and occurrence of malformation. Determination of proteins for isolates causing-disease by SDS-PAGE explained there’s specific band for each fungus and there are common bands among some isolates of fungi. Since, band with MW 30 KDa represented only in F. proliferatum and F. oxysporum and F. subgluti-nans respectively. This band considered as specific band for these isolates, which released high patho-genisity effect.
