Marine control systems

This research is a follow-up of a more comprehensive PhD study on assessment of shale gas resources in the northern Song Hong basin that was conducted at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The Song Hong basin, a typical pull-apart Cenozoic basin, had experienced a post-extensional stage accompanied by seafloor spreading from Upper Oligocene to Lower Miocene with its stratigraphy characterised by a fault-controlled syn-rift continental sequence followed by a post-rift marine sequence.

High-resolution marine seismic reflection studies on the eastern shelf of the Saros Gulf have revealed the presence of gascharged sediments across a narrow submarine valley incised by the Ganos Fault along the North Anatolian Fault system. Quaternary sediments, accumulated during glacial and interglacial periods through transgressional and progradational units, were controlled by glacio-eustatic sea-level fluctuations and tectonic deformation. The transgressional units made of upward-fining deposits created seals at their tops to form gas accumulation pockets.

This paper presents a complete process in designing and manufacturing a marine buoy integrated with a radiation sensor. The radiation detector can measure both dose rate and radiological spectrum. The ORMS also combines multimodal data transmission and various programmed software for data processing, signal transmission, and system control. Therefore, the proposed configuration system has potential application in terms of performance and maintenance.

This work proposes the dynamics of a 3-D overhead-type crane operated in offshore condition that considers the effects of sea wave excitation as well as wind-induced force. The crane mounted on a ship with actuator saturations is taken into consideration and its modeling is derived from the Lagrange formulation.

The use of such experience to execute a similar project as Malacca Strait MEH in the Mediterranean Sea can be considered an important need for such strategic place. Its application may be extended to environmental management programs, search-andrescue operations, anti-piracy program, environmental impact assessment, and fisheries/aquaculture management, among others.
