Resistance to pathogenic bacteria may lead to serious health problems. Scientists found that discovering novel antimicrobial compounds is possible by exploring rarely investigated environments. Therefore, this work focused on isolating and identifying some fungal strains collected from the Co To sea. We tested whether such strains can produce compounds with vital activities, including antibacterial and antifungal. The antimicrobial activity of the marine fungi crude extracts was performed by the Bioassay method in a 96-well tray.

This study aimed to assess the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of 61 marine fungal strains isolated from 34 samples collected in the research journey of the Akademik Oparin vessel in the North Sea of Vietnam in 2021. Of these, 23 were from sponges, 21 from seaweeds, 15 from sediments, and only 2 from seawater.

This study aimed to isolate and identify marine fungi from Bai Tu Long Bay and assess their antimicrobial potential. We successfully isolated twenty strains of marine-derived fungi. The crude extracts from these fungi were tested against pathogenic microorganisms. All twenty strains exhibit some degree of growth inhibition against the tested microorganisms.

Marine fungi are evaluated as a potential source for new natural compounds with bioactivities of pharmaceutical values. In this study, 66 fungal strains, isolated from 37 sponge samples in Nha Trang bay, were determined for cytotoxic activity against two human cancer cell lines, including cervical cancer (Hela) and breast cancer (MCF-7) cells using MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay.

The objective of this study is to isolate and screen fungal strains with antibacterial activity from the marine environment. Twenty five strains of fungi were isolated from marine sediments of Thanh Lan, Co To island and assessed on antibiotic activity against 7 tested microbial strains, including three Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli ATCC25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853, Salmonella enterica ATCC13076), three Gram-positive bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis ATCC29212, Stapphylococus aureus ATCC25923, Bacillus cereus ATCC 13245), and the yeast Candida albicans ATCC10231.

The Aspergillus fungi have been an important source of natural products that are useful for exploration in medicine, agriculture and industry. In our continuous investigation to search for new antimicrobial agents from marine-derived fungi, one new phomaligol A2, together with three known compounds, wasabidienone E, aspertetranone D and mactanamide, were obtained from the EtOAc extract of the culture medium of the marine-derived fungus Aspergillus flocculosus (A. flocculosus) 01NT.1.1.5 isolated from the sponge Stylissa sp. at Nhatrang Bay, Vietnam.

Two Pseudomonas spp. are isolated from different natural sources i.e. soil rhizosphere and marine water on selective media like cetrimide agar base and King’s B medium. Pseudomonas fluorescence NCIM 5096 and other two isolated of Pseudomonas produced siderophore with the yield 71%, 72.33%, 33% of hydroxamate type, in iron free succinate medium (SM). Nutrient medium inhibited the growth of siderophore while the succinate medium gave the maximum production of siderophore. pH has important role in production of siderophore i.e.

A good understanding of the role of culture conditions in the biosynthesis of metabolites may lead to better exploitation of microbial metabolites. Why did I decide to write this book? As an undergraduate student I could not make up my mind whether I wanted to be a zoologist or a botanist, so I decided to adopt ecology, in its broadest sense, as my area of interest. This led me to think about interactions among organisms and to try to look at ecosystems from a holistic, rather than from an autecological, point of view. As someone with little formal training in mycology, my interest in fungi started during my doctoral research, especially when attending university-wide lectures by C. T. Ingold, given at the University of London.
