  • This paper summarizes mollusk biodiversity data recorded over 15 years in the North-Eastern Archipelago of Vietnam. It is intended to document environmental changes in an area of remarkable environmental significance during the country’s rapid economic growth and vigorous development, causing unprecedented threats to the marine realm and its biota.

  • A brain-infecting myxozoan, Kudoa yasunagai (Hsieh & Chen, 1984), was identified using both morphological and molecular methods in a marine fish from Van Phong Bay, Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam. Cysts containing spores were observed in the brain of one out of 10 Siganus virgatus (Valenciennes) individuals (10%). The myxospores were radially symmetrical, containing a majority of 7 equal shell valves and polar capsules.

  • Ebook "Oceanography and marine biology: A book of techniques" is primarily addressed to those who wish to learn something of how our knowledge of the sea is obtained. In it will be found an account of the apparatus used in many branches of oceanography. Although we are not really concerned with results, lest the description of apparatus becomes too tedious, some reference to them—particularly when they are of general interest or when they are rather new—has been made. The descriptions are accompanied by diagrams, either specially prepared or taken from original papers.

  • Upwelling is an oceanographic phenomenon that involves the physical process and contributes to changes in chemistry, biology, and natural resources. So, systematically, it is the particular ecosystems of whole marine regions with the upwelling. The strong upwelling waters in South Central Regions of Vietnam have uncertain features of the East Vietnam Sea (Bien Dong) and special characteristics of a coastal upwelling area, recorded in international scientific papers in the twentieth century.

  • The sedimentary record confirmed that microplastics have been accumulating in these estuaries since the early 1950s, and their abundances have increased greatly in more recent years in response to the progressive urbanization of the watersheds and intensification of land uses. Our results highlight the role of salt marsh sediments as sinks for microplastics in the marine environment.

  • This paper presents the first results of a study on the Scaptognathus (Acari: Halacaridae) mites from the Mediterranean Sea coast of Turkey. Two species, S. hallezi Trouessart, 1894 and S. sabularius André, 1961, are newly recorded from Turkey. They are briefly described with drawings, habitats, and worldwide distributions. Additionally, a checklist is provided for the marine halacarid species of Turkey.

  • Seagrasses in Truong Sa archipelago have not been intensively studied and understood, even in some obviously progressive works recently published. It is essential to carry out much more researches to fill up understanding gaps of seagrasses in the area. In 2019, within the framework of the project coded KC09.29/16–20, two surveys were conducted for three selected islands (Truong Sa Lon, Thuyen Chai and Song Tu Tay) in the area, focusing on marine ecosystems including seagrass beds.

  • The ichthyo-fauna in the Ba Che and Tien Yen rivers, northern Vietnam is highly diverse, with a total of 245 species determined. However, data on the distribution of fish species are not sufficiently provided for the whole area. This study was conducted from 2008 to 2011 at 27 stations from the Ba Che and Tien Yen river basins to determine the distribution of fish species according to different sections of the rivers, water bodies, seasons, and salinity levels.

  • In above perspective, present study aimed to quantify the different types of litter and Juhu beach, Mumbai. Marine litter especially plastic waste collected and assessed during the months of February 2018. Quantification was done on weight basis, total quantity and the quantities of segregated plastic were recorded by weighing the material. The results showed that a significant higher number and weight of marine litter was collected during ebb tide period in comparison to flood tide. The study will provide to control future marine litter pollution in marine environment.

  • This study presents a detailed continental palaeoclimate record for the Neogene of Northwestern Europe. Palynomorph samples from continental to marginal marine deposits in 5 correlated sections from the Lower Rhine Basin (NW Germany) covering the time-span from Burdigalian to Zanclean are analysed. Independent time-control in the sections is provided by sequence stratigraphy

  • We present an overview of selected papers published since 2000 that interpret Late Quaternary multi-proxy palaeoclimate records from Turkey and the surrounding region of the Near-Middle East and Mediterranean region. Existing records in Turkey are rather limited in their resolution, and the locations studied thus far reflect a limited spatial and temporal distribution.

  • This sedimentological and sequence-stratigraphic study focuses on the late Miocene deposits in one of the largest periMediterranean basins of southern Turkey, the Adana Basin, which formed as a Tauride foreland depression accumulating molasse deposits. The Tortonian–Messinian shallow-marine Handere Formation, previously interpreted as a regressive succession, appears to have recorded several relative sea-level changes.

  • Sedimentary records of the continental shelves since Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5 are valuable for paleoenvironmental reconstruction and decipherment of land–sea interactions. Since the 1990s, different perspectives on global glacioclimate magnitudes and the associated evolution of major sedimentary environments during the Late Pleistocene have caused a distinctive understanding of marine transgressions and coastal deposits during MIS 3 and MIS 5.

  • The presence of some marine dinoflagellates and Calamus, Lauraceae, and Arecaceae suggests near-seaside plant distribution in the Kağızman-Kötek and Tuzluca areas. According to micro- and macrofloral records and numerical climatic values calculated by the coexistence approach method, paleoclimatic conditions could have changed between warm temperate and subtropical, and also seasonality was effective in East Anatolia during the Late Oligocene.

  • In May 2013, a scientific expedition was organized by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FEBRAS) in the frame of the VAST-FEBRAS International collaboration program. The expedition went along the coast of Vietnam from Quang Ninh to Kien Giang. The objective was to collect natural resources for investigation of the biological and biochemical diversity of the territorial waters of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Among the collected algae, six taxa are new records for the Vietnam algal flora.
