Ebook "Total synthesis of plakortide E and biomimetic synthesis of plakortone B" subsequently converts Plakortide E methyl ester to plakortone B in a biomimetic conversion. Construction and functionalization of cyclic peroxides are notoriously difficult due to the very low O-O bond dissociation energy. Plaktoride E is isolated from the Jamaican marine sponge platorits halichondrioides and contains a five-membered peroxide ring, with oxygen atoms linked to tertiary C4 and C6 centers.

Marine fungi are evaluated as a potential source for new natural compounds with bioactivities of pharmaceutical values. In this study, 66 fungal strains, isolated from 37 sponge samples in Nha Trang bay, were determined for cytotoxic activity against two human cancer cell lines, including cervical cancer (Hela) and breast cancer (MCF-7) cells using MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay.

Chemical investigation of the marine sponge-derived fungal strain Aspergillus sp. IMBC-FP2.05 resulted in isolation of five compounds, including JBIR-74 (1), homogentisic acid (2), methyl (2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)acetate (3), 3- chloro-2,5-dihydroxybenzyl alcohol (4), and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (5). Their chemical structures were identified by comprehensive analyses of the 1D and 2D NMR and mass spectra in comparison with the previously reported data. Furthermore, nitric oxide (NO) inhibitory effects of the isolated compounds in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells were also reported.

In a recent study, we described two new lavandulylated flavonoids, along with eight known compounds from the culture broth of a Streptomyces sp. (strain G246), isolated from the sponge Halichondria panicea, collected in the sea of Son Tra peninsula (Da Nang). A comparison study was conducted to differentiate between solid and liquid fermentation technique for secondary metabolites production of strain G246. In this paper, we report the isolation and structural characterization of nine secondary metabolites (1-9) from strain G246 by solid state fermentation.

The Aspergillus fungi have been an important source of natural products that are useful for exploration in medicine, agriculture and industry. In our continuous investigation to search for new antimicrobial agents from marine-derived fungi, one new phomaligol A2, together with three known compounds, wasabidienone E, aspertetranone D and mactanamide, were obtained from the EtOAc extract of the culture medium of the marine-derived fungus Aspergillus flocculosus (A. flocculosus) 01NT.1.1.5 isolated from the sponge Stylissa sp. at Nhatrang Bay, Vietnam.

Oceans are the diverse resource, which cover more than 70% of the earth’s surface. No doubt, with 34 of 36 phyla of life represented, oceans are the greatest biodiversity in the world [1]. They are the extraordinary natural source of microorganism, algae, sponge, coelenterate, bryozoan, mollusk, and echinoderm… Especially, on coral reef, where shelter more than 1000 species per m2 . Surprisingly, there is only a small number of researches in this field.

In this study, 46 strains of actinomycetes were isolated from 40 samples including: sediments, sponges, soft corals, echinoderms and starfish collected from three coastal areas of Vietnam: Thanh Hoa – Quang Binh – Quang Tri. The strains were fermented in A+ medium and fermentation broths were extracted 5 times with ethyl acetate then the extracts were evaporated under reduced pressure to yield crude extracts.

Protease inhibitors are proteins or peptides inhibiting the activity of protease and constitute a very important mechanism for regulating protease activity. So far, protease inhibitors have been used for the study of enzyme structures and reaction mechanisms, but recently they have also been used in pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial fields.

The marine environment is an extremely complex ecosystem and contains a broad spectrum of fungal diversity. Marine fungi have been shown to be tremendous sources for new and biologically active secondary metabolites. The present study aims to isolate and screen antimicrobial properties of 100 fungus strains from different marine sources including seaweeds, soft corals, sponges and sediment collected at Nha Trang Bay, Vietnam.
