  • As a huge source of wealth, oil can serve as the engine of, or a barriers to, economic growth in oil-rich countries. The important issue is how to manage oil revenues while taking into account the welfare of future generations as a foundation of sustainable development. On one hand, oil-exporters can lay the groundwork for sustainable development by allocating these revenues to infrastructural projects; on the other hand, they can create rents through corruption or mismanagement and thus create a strong barrier to the growth of macroeconomic indicators (Sala-I-Martin and Subramanian, 2003).

  • The tomato leaves infected with early blight recorded the highest leaf surface fungal species than non-infected leaves. In total twenty six fungal species (thirteen genera) were isolated from both diseased infected and noninfected leaf surface of tomato from seven districts of Meghalaya, following leaf impression, leaf washing and dilution plating and leaf washing and serial dilution plating methods. Among all the three methods used leaf impression method recovered the highest fungal population followed by serial dilution plating and leaf washing and dilution plating method.

  • This paper aims to revisit the Porter hypothesis associated with TFP convergence using a panel data set of manufacturing SMEs in Vietnam covering 2005 - 2015. It contributes to the literature by giving more deeply understanding about TFP convergence of SMEs. Especially, this is the first one examining the link between environmental practices and TFP convergence. We apply the stochastic method developed by Levinsohn and Petrin (2003) to estimate stochastic TFP.

  • In the past the evaluation of machine translation systems has focused on single system evaluations because there were only few systems available. But now there are several commercial systems for the same language pair. This requires new methods of comparative evaluation. In the paper we propose a black-box method for comparing the lexical coverage of MT systems. The method is based on lists of words from different frequency classes. It is shown how these word lists can be compiled and used for testing. We also present the results of using our method on 6 MT systems that translate...

  • This paper presents a unification procedure which eliminates the redundant copying of structures by using a lazy incremental copying appr0a~:h to achieve structure sharing. Copying of structures accounts for a considerable amount of the total processing time. Several methods have been proposed to minimize the amount of necessary copying. Lazy Incremental Copying (LIC) is presented as a new solution to the copying problem. It synthesizes ideas of lazy copying with the notion of chronological dereferencing for achieving a high amount of structure sharing. ...

  • We describe an original method that automatically finds specific topics in a large collection of texts. Each topic is first identified as a specific cluster of texts and then represented as a virtual concept, which is a weighted mixture of words. Our intention is to employ these virtual concepts in document indexing. In this paper we show some preliminary experimental results and discuss directions of future work.

  • We consider the problem of predictive inference for probabilistic binary sequence labeling models under F-score as utility. For a simple class of models, we show that the number of hypotheses whose expected Fscore needs to be evaluated is linear in the sequence length and present a framework for efficiently evaluating the expectation of many common loss/utility functions, including the F-score. This framework includes both exact and faster inexact calculation methods.

  • Instead of assembling a new MBA program from existing courses, we chose to first develop a concep- tual foundation that tries to integrate these components based on a common vision and a common set of methods and models. Parallel to the ‘Enterprise Engineer’ approach by Martin (1995), Business Engi- neering was been proposed initially in the mid 1990s as a holistic methodology for the conceptualiza- tion, design, and implementation of IT-enabled business transformation.

  • Twenty-five years ago, Georges Köhler and César Milstein invented a means of cloning individual antibodies, thus opening up the way for tremendous advances in the fields of cell biology and clinical diagnostics (1). However, in spite of their early promise, monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) were largely unsuccessful as therapeutic reagents resulting from insufficient activation of human effector functions and immune reactions against proteins of murine origin.

  • A technique that carried less risk and could be performed as an office procedure was the method of needle biopsy of the prostate through the perineum. The first description came in 1922 from Barringer who adopted Martin and Ellis’ technique of needle puncture for acquiring tissue for histological analysis (Barringer, 1922). He described the use of a screw tip needle to obtain a perineal punch biopsy and was successful in obtaining prostatic tissue in 16 out of 33 patients.
