Masonry structures

Layered structures are widely used in construction, such as pavement structures consisting of multiple layers of different materials or interfaces between bricks and mortar in masonry structures, etc. In analyzing such structures, understanding the properties of the interface between two layers of materials is essential.

This work aims to study the crack pattern in masonry-like structures by a simplified description of the medium using a variational damage model. In literature, when modeling fractures in masonry structures, capturing both fracture types, cracks in units, and cracks at the interface simultaneously, usually requires a complicated scheme.
