This thesis addresses important issues about how to make game characters and virtual agents more realistic or believable by using cognitive-social personality theories. We begin motivation by discussing two examples. The first is from a television series and the second is a more concrete example that will be used throughout the thesis to explain concepts and the model. These examples represent the ideal goal of our work.

The above aims raise the following research objectives: To identify and analyse how people from Bogotá living in Melbourne understand, perceive and position themselves in relation to the Colombian socio-economic stratification system; To explore how people from Bogotá living in Melbourne re-think and reposition themselves in terms of socio-economic stratification once in Australia; To assess whether and how their perceptions of socio-economic stratification and repositioning after migration affects their self-perception and their perception of others.

The study examines how Small-Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) demonstrate a range of innovation capabilities when they collaborate with a regional university research centre. This collaboration is shown to be important to create and exchange new knowledge to advance the firms innovation performance. The study demonstrates the ability of firms to acquire and exploit this knowledge, which is a business competency described as absorptive capacity (AC). AC relies on several antecedents or factors to engage with a collective learning process.

This thesis aimed to explore a range of social-ecological factors in the understanding of adolescent suicide ideation. Comprising two studies, the first study examined adolescents’ differential perceptions of mother involvement and father involvement, and their association with adolescent suicide ideation and psychological well-being.

This qualitative study offers a significant contribution to addressing the increasing youth suicide rate in Australia, with suicide now the leading cause of death for young people aged 15 to 24 years old (AIHW, 2017, 2020b; Robinson et al., 2016). The research goal is to investigate what guides and shapes school social work practice in preventing and responding to suicidal students in Victorian secondary schools, and the implications for social work practice and education.
