Maternal separation models in rodents are widely used to establish molecular mechanisms underlying prolonged effects of early life adversity on neurobiological and behavioral outcomes in adulthood. However, global epigenetic signatures following early life stress in these models remain unclear.

More than 50 percent of women in low-resource settings deliver without skilled birth attendants and hours away from facilities where these medicines and emergency obstetric care should be available. Managing high blood pressure and related seizures and preventing bleeding for births that are not attended by skilled providers remain major challenges for improving maternal survival. Additional studies are needed to understand the gaps and challenges with regard to policy, regulatory, manufacturing, supply chain management, information systems, financing and demand.

Crossing-over and genetic recombination. During chiasma formation, either of the two sister chromatids on one chromosome pairs with one of the chromatids of the homologous chromosome. Genetic recombination occurs through crossing-over and results in recombinant and nonrecombinant chromosome segments in the gametes. Together with the random segregation of the maternal and paternal chromosomes, recombination contributes to genetic diversity and forms the basis of the concept of linkage.
