Matrix and inclusions properties

In recent years, the prediction of the effective transport properties have received a great number of investigations. The present work is dedicated to determining the effective permeability of two-dimensional (2D) doubly porous materials made of an isotropic permeable solid matrix in which elliptical shaped pores of any size are embedded. At the interface between the fluid and the solid, the Beaver–Joseph–Saffman conditions are applied.

Equivalent inclusion approach is then developed to account for possible diversions, such as non-idealistic geometric forms of the inhomogeneities, imperfect matrix-inclusion contacts, filler dispersions, and when the particular values of the fillers’ properties are unspecified, using available numerical or experimental reference conductivity data for particular composites.

In this paper, we focus specially on the effective elastic moduli of the heterogeneous composites with arbitrary inclusion shapes. The main idea of this paper is to replace those inhomogeneities by simple equivalent circular (spherical) isotropic inclusions with modified elastic moduli. Available simple approximations for the equivalent circular (spherical) inclusion media then can be used to estimate the effective properties of the original medium.

With the increasing amount of waste generation from different processes, there has been a growing interest in the use of waste in producing sustainable building materials to achieve potential benefits. This study investigated the influence of waste polypropylene carpet fibers and palm oil fuel ash (POFA) on the microstructure and residual properties of concrete composites exposed to elevated temperatures. Four mixes containing carpet fibers (0% and 0.5%) and POFA (0% and 20%) were prepared. The specimens were exposed to high temperatures (200, 400, 600 and 800 C) for 1 h.
