Habitat conditions may shape the abundance and community structure of planktonic fauna. In this study, we investigated whether reservoirs with different locations and drainage basins also differed in the structure and abundance of zooplankton. The studies were conducted in 2010–2011 between June and October in the Vistula Lagoon and Lake Łebsko. The zooplankton was dominated mainly by small eurytopic organisms belonging to Rotifera. Plankton crustaceans showed a limited diversity of species. Copepods were predominant, while Cladocera were observed sporadically in more freshwater habitats.

In the pursuit of our work on the traditional process of malting of corn, study of smothering phase consists to appreciate the evolution of degree of softening of grains of the malt in relationship with the cell density of yeast. In the course of steeping process the humidified corn acidify oneself spontaneously (initial acidity: 0.5 ml of 0.1 N NaOH solution and final acidity: 1.2 ml of NaOH) and sustains a germination process which the stopping is assured by smothering the germinated grains.

The ichthyo-fauna in the Ba Che and Tien Yen rivers, northern Vietnam is highly diverse, with a total of 245 species determined. However, data on the distribution of fish species are not sufficiently provided for the whole area. This study was conducted from 2008 to 2011 at 27 stations from the Ba Che and Tien Yen river basins to determine the distribution of fish species according to different sections of the rivers, water bodies, seasons, and salinity levels.

Cauvery river system is one of the major freshwater aquatic systems in Peninsular India with a number of tributaries and reservoirs on it. The system inhabits a variety of endemic fish species. Thippagondanahalli Reservoir (TR) is a medium reservoir on Arkavathy River, a tributary of River Cauvery. This report is on the first record of dwarf gourami, Trichogaster lalius belonging to the family, Osphronemidae, from the TR. The reservoir is located in Bengaluru South Taluk, Karnataka [13⁰ 02’41”N 77⁰ 36’24”E; Area at FRL (Full Reservoir level): 1162.0 ha].

Rapid urbanization and industrialization have increased the pressure on limited existing fresh water to meet the growing needs for food production. To immediate responses to this challenge is the efficient use of irrigation technology. Drip irrigation methods may play an important role in efficient use of water but there is still limited information on their use on wheat crops. This study investigates impacts of climate change on water resource in the Huong River basin in the Central Vietnam. Hydrological responses of six climate change scenarios were calculated. Results reveal that climate change would cause significant increase in rainfall in wet season resulting in an increase in river flow. By contrast, the decreasing trend of river flow in dry season is a consequence of the decline of rainfall and increase of evapotranspiration under most scenarios. Sea level rise coupled with the lowering of river stages may exacerbate salinity intrusion.

In smaller regions such as the Carpathian Basin (located in Eastern/Central Europe), 50 km horizontal resolution may still not be appropriate to describe the meso-scale processes (e.g., cloud formation and convective precipitation). For this purpose on a national level several RCMs have been adapted with finer resolution (25 and 10 km). Here, results from two of the adapted RCMs for Hungary are analyzed, namely, models PRECIS and RegCM. In this paper, first, data and models from PRUDENCE, PRECIS and RegCM are presented.

Water resources could in principle be managed by several users as common property resources. In the absence of effective mechanisms for co-management at the watershed or river-basin level, however, water resources often become open access. Conflicts often arise between upstream and downstream users. Irrigators at the tail end of a large irrigation system may have the formal right to water, but their share may be taken by farmers near the head of the system, who may even have switched to higher value and more water consumptive crops through collusion with irrigation officials.
