MBR performance

The main aim of this investigation was to evaluate the capability of Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) for removal of nutrient and organic compounds from domestic wastewater. MBR as an advanced process had a proper nutrient as well as organic compounds removal efficiency from domestic wastewater.

Phenolic wastewater was treated using anaerobic submerged membrane bioreactor (ASMBR). Effect of different solids retention times on MBR performance was studied. Various ratios of carbon to nitrogen were used in the synthetic waste waters.

Membrane bioreactors (MBRs) are being increasingly applied to many full-scale plants around the world to treat both municipal and industrial wastewater. However, membrane fouling and energy consumption are significant challenges to broader applications of MBRs. By using a new MBR configuration, this research aims to compare the performance between a conventional MBR and a reciprocation MBR (rMBR) that uses inertial forces without air scouring for fouling reduction.

This paper proposes a density optimal method, named as DO-TPR*-tree, which improves the performance of the original TPR*-tree significantly. In this proposed method, the search algorithm will enforce firing up MBR adjustment on a node, if the condition, based on density optimal for the area of its MBR, is satisfied at a query time.

We present a Minimum Bayes Risk (MBR) decoder for statistical machine translation. The approach aims to minimize the expected loss of translation errors with regard to the BLEU score. We show that MBR decoding on N -best lists leads to an improvement of translation quality. We report the performance of the MBR decoder on four different tasks: the TCSTAR EPPS Spanish-English task 2006, the NIST Chinese-English task 2005 and the GALE Arabic-English and Chinese-English task 2006. The absolute improvement of the BLEU score is between 0.2% for the TCSTAR task and 1.

The minimum Bayes risk (MBR) decoding objective improves BLEU scores for machine translation output relative to the standard Viterbi objective of maximizing model score. However, MBR targeting BLEU is prohibitively slow to optimize over k-best lists for large k. In this paper, we introduce and analyze an alternative to MBR that is equally effective at improving performance, yet is asymptotically faster — running 80 times faster than MBR in experiments with 1000-best lists.
