This paper presents a theoretical study that describes the fiber bridging mechanism under tensile stress using a closed-form analytical function. This proposed analytical model allows estimating the stress at a crack opening where the fiber orientation is represented by a Gaussian-like periodic distribution function.

The mechanical behavior was evaluated through quantities such as shear resistance, relative slip between the steel beam and concrete slab, and failure modes. The results show that screw significantly affects the mechanical behavior of shear connectors in cold-formed steel-concrete composite beams.

Steel corrosion affects the failure mechanism of deteriorated reinforced concrete (RC) beams. Meanwhile, there is a lack of research on the shear behavior of corroded RC beams, particularly corroded steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams. This paper investigates the shear behavior of corroded SFRC beams with a 1.5 shear span-to-depth ratio. All beam specimens included steel fibers with 50 kg/m3.

Orthotropic steel bridge decks (OSBDs) have been widely used in long span bridges with many advantages, however, the long-term performance of the asphalt wearing course is still questionable. There is a lack of understanding the causes of cracking and adhesion failure between the tack coat and the steel plate, etc.

The computational model shows that plastic buckling of cells with progressive plasticity of the contact area is the key local failure mechanism. As expected, due to the plastic buckling of the unit cells, thermal degradations of the tested metallic foams follow similar trends as does the yield stress of their bulk metals.

Using a molecular dynamics (MD) model, we subject a nanocrystalline carbon steel work piece to grinding by hard alumina abrasives and study material removal and surface topography. A second, much larger MD model allows us to additionally study the microstructural and stress response of a polycrystalline ferritic work piece with a grain size that qualitatively reproduces macroscopic material behavior.

In this paper, the continuous stiffness measurement (CSM) indentation is employed to investigate fatigue mechanical properties of structural steel under cyclic loading. For this purpose, several representative analytical approaches were introduced to estimate the basic mechanical properties including Young’s modulus and indentation hardness from the characteristics of the loading/unloading curves.

Electrochemical drill-grinding (ECDG) is a compound machining technology, which combines Electrochemical machining (ECM) with mechanical drill-grinding process. On this basis, a new method of machining small holes which called ultrasonic-assisted electrochemical drill-grinding (UAECDG) is proposed. First, the principle of UAECDG is analyzed through analysis of UAECDG process and electrochemical passivation behavior of materials.

The effectiveness of concrete structures reinforced by the high strength steel wire mesh-polymer mortar depends on the bond-slip behavior of the interface between the polymer modified cement mortar layer (referred as mortar layer) and the concrete. The areas of the mortar layer tested in the previous studies are generally very small and the obtained conclusions are with limited applications. In this study, the experimental approach was used to analyze the slip behavior of the interface between the concrete block and a larger scale mortar layer.

This paper analyzes the effect of temperature on steel fibers pull-out mechanism from a high strength concrete matrix and its contribution to the residual mechanical behavior of Steel Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete (SFRHSC). Pull-out tests of straight and hooked end fibers and uniaxial tension tests on the fiber filaments exposed to room and high temperature (300 C, 375 C and 475 C) were performed. Additionally, two SFRHSC incorporating 30 kg/m3 and 60 kg/m3 of hooked end steel fibers and a plain High Strength Concrete (HSC) exposed to the same temperatures were studied.

The model is coupled with irradiation effect via tracking dislocation loop evolution on each slip system. On the basis of the model, uniaxial tensile tests of unirradiated and irradiated RPV steel(take Chinese A508-3 as an example) at different temperatures are simulated, and the simulation results agree well with the experimental results. Furthermore, crystal plasticity damage is introduced into the model. Then the damage behavior before and after irradiation is studied using the model.

The shear transferring mechanisms of shallow-hollow composite beams with concrete slab cast in place are different with conventional headed shear studs and have not been investigated previously. In this study, the behavior and push-out test of concrete dowel connectors for longitudinal shear in shallow-hollow composite beams are described.

In this paper, the cyclic plastic behaviors such as cyclic hardening and cyclic creep of special steel garde 38XH3MФА are studied. Tensile test (uniaxial monotonic test) has been conducted to get mechanical properties of the materials. Cyclic deformation tests were carried out for specimens bearing uniaxial load over materials yield limit in cyclic tension-compression with both strain – controlled and stress – controlled methods.

This paper presents a modeling technique t hat derives from t he work of Newmark to describe the behavior of steel-concrete composite beams with elastic shear connection. The model is used to derive expressions for beam curvat ure, rotation and defl ection under monotonic load from wh ich the stiffness matrix is derived and finite element analysis performed on a set of illustrat ive examples. Iviodel results are compared to those obtained using other method.

Whereas spark erosion and lasermachining are suitable for any metal, the use of mechanical precision machining and the tools suitable for this type depend on the stability of the alloy. For brass and copper, natural diamondmicrotools are suitable and widely used, while for stainless steel and nickel- based alloys, hardmetal tools are needed. Figure 1.3 shows a natural diamond cutter, whereas Figure 1.4 shows a hard metal drill. Figure 1.5 shows photos of a rhodium honeycombmicrochannel catalyst system.
