In this study, we investigated whether osteoporosis-like phenotype could be induced in the transgenic larvae when heat-shock was applied at earlier time points, namely when larvae were at 1,2,3,4,5, or 6 dpf. The obtained results show that heat-shocks from the time point of 3 dpf onwards resulted in osteoporosis-like phenotype, while heat-shock at 1 or 2 dpf did not affect mineralized bone matrix in 11 dpf larvae.

In this study, we testcrossed 12 fish of the F5 generation, which were offspring obtained from inbreeding of heterozygous F4 siblings, with wild type fish and found 3 female and 3 male F5 fish homozygous for the transgene.

Aquarium fishes, like medaka, zebrafish and goldfish offer an excellent model to conduct studies on molecular mechanisms of embryonic developmental pathways, patterns of genes involved in pluripotency and cell fate decision. To determine the possible candidate gene as an ideal pluripotency marker in goldfish, the comparative study on quantitative expression of a set of genes were conducted in the mid-blastula derived inner cell mass (ICM) and adult somatic cells.

The use of medaka fish as a candidate animal model has been started which has similarities with the Zebra fish that was developed as an animal model. Sulawesi medaka fish (Oryzias celebensis) is a type of medaka fish that are endemic in the region of South Sulawesi. This research aims to observe the histology of anterior gut of Sulawesi medaka fish. Histological study on the anterior gut of Sulawesi medaka fish using buccal cavity and oesophagus organs. Histological observation showed that the mouth and buccal cavity are shared by the respiratory and digestive systems.

The teleost fish medaka (Oryzias latipes) is currently used by laboratories worldwide as a model for many human diseases, including bone diseases. Our research group focuses on a medaka model for osteoporosis. To characterize the bone indexes of diseased animals, the bone development indexes of healthy wild-type fish are required for comparative analysis. Thus, this study examined the developmental and bone development indexes of wild-type medaka larvae at 11 and 16 days of age, the two developmental stages selected for the analysis of diseased patterns in osteoporosis-induced animals.
