Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common focal mononeuropathy which presents with pain in the wrist and hand, paresthesia, loss of sensation in the distribution of the median nerve, and in more severe cases, weakness and atrophy of the thenar muscles.

Ultrasound-guided parasternal intercostal nerve block is rarely used for postoperative analgesia, and its value remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided parasternal intercostal nerve block for postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing median sternotomy for mediastinal mass resection.

The symptoms in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) can be ameliorated by open and endoscopic release of the transverse carpal ligament. It is unknown whether a mini-incision or endoscopic carpal tunnel release more effectively reverses the pathological changes that are observed in the median nerve in patients with CTS and these morphologic changes correlates with the subjective outcomes after carpal tunnel release.

Systemic sclerosis can affect peripheral nerves, but the extent and the nature of this involvement are not well defined. The aim of this study is to compare the sonoelastrographic measurements of median nerves in systemic sclerosis (SSC), idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and healthy individuals.

The palmaris longus (PL) muscle is characterised by high morphological diversity, and its tendon crosses the median nerve (MN) at different levels. Due to the fact that the palmaris longus tendon is routinely harvested for reconstruction of other tendons, knowledge of its morphological variations is clinically important.

Anatomical variations of brachial plexus have previously been described by various authors. But in this study more types of variations were found. The coracobrachialis muscle was innervated by nerve to coracobrachialis, a branch arising from lateral cord. The musculocutaneous nerve was not piercing the coracobrachialis. The median nerve was formed at the junction of upper one-third and lower two-third of arm by joining of lateral and medial roots from the lateral and medial cord of brachial plexus, instead in the axilla. These anatomical variations were seen on the left side of upper limb.

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of pulsed electromagnetic field versus pulsed ultrasound in treating patients with postnatal carpal tunnel syndrome. The study was a randomized, double-blinded trial. Forty postnatal female patients with idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome were divided randomly into two equal groups. One group received pulsed electromagnetic field, with nerve and tendon gliding exercises for the wrist, three times per week for four weeks. The other group received pulsed ultrasound and the same wrist exercises.

The carpal tunnel is narrow and no arteries or veins are transmitted through it for risk of potential compression. The median nerve is how-ever at risk of compression when the tunnel is narrowed for any reason. This is the carpal tunnel syndrome and results in signs of median nerve and brevis motor and sensory impairment.

In 1930 Ferguson modified the technique and published his series of 280 patients who had prostate needle aspiration biopsy using an 18-gauge needle via the transperineal approach and was able to remove adequate tissue in 78 to 86% of his cases (Ferguson, 1930) (figure 6). The patient was placed in the lithotomy position and local anaesthetic was infiltrated just lateral to the median raphe 1cm anterior to the anus. The index finger of the left hand was introduced into the rectum guiding an 18 gauge needle introduced into the perineum taking care to avoid the rectum and urethra....
