The Cuu Long delta is affected strongly by mass water from rivers of the MeKong river system such as Tieu, Dai, Ham Luong, Co Chien, Cung Hau, Dinh An and Tranh De (Hau river). The estuaries of Cuu Long delta are large with a huge amount of sediment (about 100 million tons per year) and high tide (about 4.2m) made the large tidal flats with high level of biodiversity, which is an important resource for aquaculture.

Saline intrusion is a big challenge for the Mekong Delta region, a negative factor that greatly affects water and food security. In particular, the most severely affected areas are the coastal sub–regions between the Tien and Hau rivers in the lower Mekong basin, which are directly influenced by the tidal regime.

This study aims to investigate how nematodes’ communities variables such as diversity, sex and feeding structure alter in different 5 layers of sediment deep profile of the river bed. Our studies found for the first time that nematodes’ communities not only stay on 10 cm first layers but they can contribute until 50 cm deep in the sediment profile of the river bed.

Saltwater intrusion occurs naturally in a most coastal region; however it could harm a quality of local people. This phenomenon could be perceived with several models. Based on long-time database of salinity concentration collected in Dai estuary (belonging Mekong estuary systems), a number of models were comparated in order to selecting an adequate predictive model for prediction of salinity intrusion in the study area.

Until now, data on zoobenthos in the Mekong Delta has been very limited. Prior research has focused mostly on species of economic value such as the Red chut-chut snails. In this research, we investigated species composition and distribution of Brachyura, Bivals and Gastropods in the Tran De Estuary Mangrove forests in Soc Trang province between June and December, 2011, to discover the extent of zoobenthos biodiversity.

This paper focuses on meiofauna distribution following salinity gradient in the Ham Luong estuary. The aims of this study are: to examine the meiofauna community along estuarine gradient; to investigate the relationship between salinity and meiofauna community.

Coastal zone of Cuu Long estuary is a place through which Mekong River flows into the Eastern Sea with 8 estuaries. is the zone is formed under the influences in the interaction between river and sea. Geologically, coastal zone of Mekong delta is characterised by the predominat of clay and silt formations. These two factors makes the shoreline sensitive to exogenous processes such assedimentation and erosion.. This paper presents an application of satellite remote sensing technology to detect and analyze the spatial changes as well as quantify the shoreline change in Cuu Long estuary.

Định An, cửa sông.
