The combined pathogenic effects of Meloidogyne incognita and Ralstonia solanacearum on tomato were greater than independent effects of either. Inoculation of M. incognita, 10 days prior to the inoculation of R. solanacearum led to maximum wilt incidence (100%) followed by combined inoculation of both the pathogens (66.66%). Low wilt incidence was noticed in plants inoculated with bacterium alone and which was on par with inoculation of bacterium10 days before inoculation of nematode.

The interaction between root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita and the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.lycopersici was studied on tomato cultivar Pusa Ruby under pot house conditions. The effect of the nematode in combination with the fungus enhanced the suppression of plant growth than that of the fungus alone. Inoculation of the nematode and fungus exhibited a synergistic effect on growth retardation of plants. Significant reduction in plant heights in pots with nematode alone (43.77 cm) and fungus alone (43.83 cm) were also recorded, as compared to un-inoculated control (56.23 cm).

Biological control is considered as new efficient method that becomes widely used for controlling plant parasitic nematodes, as aim to decrease the extent of environment degradation and the effect of the excessive toxic nematicides. So, this study was done to investigate the role of some bacterial genera as biocontrol agent against Meloidogyne incognita.

The effect of Engyodontium aranearum, a nematode egg parasitic fungus, alone and along with other biocontrol agents, organic amendment and carbofuran was evaluated in pot culture infested with Meloidogyne incognita on tomato under pot and field condition for two seasons. Plant growth parameters, fruit yield, root population and final nematode population were determined at harvest.

A study was conducted to evaluate the reaction of tomato genotypes to root knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita race - 3) and the nematode reproduction were studied in the nematode infested pot culture experiment. Forty tomato genotypes were subjected for screening. At 65 days after nematode inoculation, whole plants were uprooted, washed and ranked for root galling and egg mass indices on a 1 to 5 scales. The plant growth responses viz.

The root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) is one of the important pathogen of Tomato plant in India. Pot experiments conducted for the evaluation of effect of Trichoderma species against root knot Nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) in Tomato. The results revealed that the Treatments T4proved to be the most effective treatment that showed better larval mortality (54.55% @24 hrs and 65.12% @48 hrs) and reduction in nematode population (113.33 %) and root gall/ root system(74.89%.

Penetration was not affected by temperature but, migration and postpenetration inside the root tissue were influenced by temperature. At 27±1°C, M. incognita second stage juvenile (J2) took 5 days to reached stele region followed by 31±1°C and 23±1°C (7 days) while, at 21±1°C, it took 10 days. Multiplication of M. incognita was greatly affected by temperature. Maximum number of galls per root system (119.6), number of egg masses per root system (275.2), number of eggs per egg mass (343.6), final nematode population (1335.2) and reproduction factor of nematodes (2.

A replicated pot culture experiment was conducted to study the comparative efficacy of different oil cakes on management of root knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) infecting tomato. The results revealed that barring the untreated check, all other treatments significantly increased the plant growth parameters, total chlorophyll content and reduced root knot nematode population as well as number of galls.

Two Bacillus spp. viz., B. pumilus-K-1 and B. megaterium-IIHR strains were tested under glasshouse as alone and in combination against M. incognita and R. solanacearum causing wilt complex in tomato. Combined application of B. pumilus-K-1 and B. megaterium-IIHR were found effective for the management of nematode bacterial wilt complex with the 50 per cent wilt incidence as compared to untreated control (100%).

The root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita is a key pest on tomato cultivation throughout the world. Eco-friendly technique for the management of M. incognita on tomato is still lacking. Hence, studies were conducted to test the nematicidal potency of leaf extracts of asparagus, white hibiscus, jasmine and Ixora plants against M. incognita under in vitro and pot culture. Under in vitro condition juvenile mortality rate was higher (49.4-90.2%) in asparagus treatment where as mortality rate was lower in Ixora treatment (8.2-35.4%).
