  • Biphenyl phthalonitrile (BPh) resins with good thermal and thermo-oxidative stability demonstrate great application potential in aerospace and national defense industries. However, BPh monomer has a high melting point, poor solubility, slow curing speed and high curing temperature. It is difficult to control the polymerization process to obtain the resins with high performance.

  • High density polyethylene (HDPE) was compounded with thermally exfoliated graphene oxide (TEGO) by thermokinetic mixing in a short time. High shear rates during the compounding process provided high exfoliation and proper dispersion of graphene layers in the polymer matrix. Different TEGO/polymer ratios were used to get efficient melt mixing. Structural analysis by spectroscopic techniques confirmed the exfoliation of TEGO sheets and the coverage of their surfaces by HDPE chains.

  • Crystallinity could have a decisive influence on photocatalytic performance. In this study, the synthesis of crystalline carbon nitride (CN) was studied via an ionic melt polycondensation of urea precursor in the presence of various salt melts, which were KCl-LiCl, KCl-NaCl, and KCl-ZnCl2. While all the salt melts helped to improve the optical properties of the CN, only KCl-LiCl salt melt could form crystalline CN as evidenced by its X-ray diffraction pattern.

  • Blends of polyphenylene oxide (PPO) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) were prepared by melt-mixing method. Flammability of these blends was studied by using UL-94 (plastics flammability standard) and LOI (limited oxygen index) tests. The results showed the role of PPO as flame retardant in the blends which can inhibit the burning process. All blends of PPO and ABS were graded as V-1 and LOI values were higher than 21. As a physical mixture, tensile strength of PPO/ABS blends maintained values between the tensile of neat ABS and PPO.

  • The additional network-modifying cation oxide breaking up this network by the generation of nonbridging O atoms and it has a slight effect on the topology of SiOx and OSiy units. Moreover, the diffusion of network- former atom in sodium-silicate melt is anomaly and diffusion coefficient for sodium atom is much larger than for oxygen or silicon atom. The simulation proves two diffusion mechanisms of the network-former atoms and modifier atoms.

  • In this article, we investigated effect of carrier resin ratio and anti-oxidation additives content on properties of anti-oxidant additives Masterbatchs (MBs). The characteristics were measured by: melt flow index (MFI), morphology (SEM), tensile strength and elongation at break. The results indicated that: increasing LLDPE content in carrier resin led to decreasing mechanical properties, MFI weren’t uniform in MBs. With 80/20 of LDPE/LLDPE ratio, the tensile strength and elongation at break values were highest (21.0 MPa, 680.5 %).

  • The paper covered preparations and characterisations of Ni-Ga based catalysts including Ni-Ga alloy, Ni-Ga/mixed oxides, Ni-Ga/ mesosilica and Ni-Ga-Co/mesosilica for synthesis of methanol from direct reduction of CO2 under hydrogen. The Ni-Ga alloy and Ni-Ga/ mixed oxides were prepared by metal melting method established at 1500o C and co-condensation-evaporation method at 80o C for 24 hours, respectively. The Ni-Ga/mesosilica and Ni-Ga-Co/mesosilica catalysts were both prepared by wet impregnation method at room temperature for 24 hours.

  • This work pointed out the preparation of a magnetic glass–ceramic in the system Fe2O3–ZnO–CaO–SiO2. The base composition was designed to crystallize about 60% magnetite. The influence of adding TiO2, Na2O and P2O5 separately or as mixtures was studied. The DTA of the glasses revealed a decrease in the thermal effects by adding P2O5, TiO2 and Na2O in an increasing order. The X-ray diffraction patterns showed the presence of nanometric magnetite crystals in a glassy matrix after cooling from the melting temperature.

  • This paper reports on the synthesis and characterisation of Dy2 O3 -doped magnesium borate (MB) glasses containing different modifiers, lithium, calcium, and sodium oxides. Glasses composed of (70-z)B2 O3 -20Li2 O; CaO; Na2 O-10MgO-zDy2 O3 (where 0.05≤z≤0.7 mol%) were prepared using the melt-quenching method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the as-quenched samples verified their amorphous character. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) confirmed excellent glass-forming ability and thermal stability in the range of 0.60-0.67 and 0.18- 0.82, respectively.

  • The measured Nusselt numbers showed a trend similar to those of existing studies, but the absolute values showed discrepancies owing to the high Prandtl number of this system. The measured angle-dependent Nusselt numbers were analyzed for 2-D and 3-D geometries, and a multiplier was developed that enables the extrapolation of 2-D data into 3-D data.

  • The presence of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) causes the changes in relative melt viscovity and the morphology of blend LLDPE/EVA. It raises torque momen amplitude of polymer blend at the balance state of melting of the polymers mixture. The results of TGA show that the durability against thermo-oxidation of polymer blend containing DCP is higher than that of without DCP. The SEM photographs also shows that DCP makes LLDPE and EVA phases dispersing into each other better than the original polymer blend.

  • Metals are used as biomaterials due to their excellent electrical and thermal conductivity and mechanical properties. Since some electrons are independent in metals, they can quickly transfer an electric charge and thermal energy. The mobile free electrons act as the binding force to hold the positive metal ions together. This attraction is strong, as evidenced by the closely packed atomic arrangement resulting in high specific gravity and high melting points of most metals.
