Microwave absorbing materials (MAMs) are essential materials for mitigating the bad effects of electromagnetic interference and microwave pollution. SrFe12-2xCux/2Cox/2TixO19 samples showed their superior microwave absorption performances in both reflection loss and effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) values for the normal incident angle of the microwave. Between these parameters, EAB values expressed how large a frequency the MAM could be used for practical applications.

Heavy metal pollution in soils has attracted an increasing attention around the world in past decades. The contamination of agricultural soils is often a direct or indirect consequence of anthropogenic activities. Such pollutants, particularly heavy metals which are not biologically degraded like many organic pollutants; but tending to accumulated, can endanger public health by being incorporated into the food chain.

We describe the synthesis, characterization and catalytic properties of a series of hybrid materials composed of inorganic plasmonic mono- and bimetallic nanoparticles supported on organic bio-based hydrogel beads. The bimetallic materials showed a localized surface plasmon resonance in the visible region, with a maximum light absorption correlated to the metal composition of the alloyed systems.

The application of non-targeted NMR methods combined with ICP-AES quantification provided an efficient strategy for detecting residual heavy metals within plant tissues and soil. Importantly, non-targeted metabolomic analysis helped to reveal the relationships between metabolites distribution in hemp tissues and the sequestered metals.

UV-Vis absorption data of p-nitrophenyl azo resorcinol (Magneson I) and its 2 Fe(III) and Cr(III) complexes were investigated both experimentally and theoretically. The geometries were optimized at BP86/TZVP level. The most stable spin states were computed as doublet and quartet for Fe(magneson) 3 and Cr(magneson) 3 complexes, respectively. Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) was employed to explore the absorption spectra properties, whereas the solvent effects were taken into account using the polarizable continuum model (PCM).

2-Acetylpyridine-4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (APPT) ligand was incorporated onto Amberlite XAD-2 resin through an azo spacer and characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, TGA, and SEM analysis. The synthesized resin was used for the preconcentration of Pb(II), Zn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) ions. The sorbed metal ions were eluted with 10 mL of 2.0 mol L−1 HCl and determined by microsample injection coupled flame atomic spectrometry (MIS-FAAS).

A rhodamine B derivative containing 1,2,4-triazole as subunit was characterized as an “off–on” type Cu2+ - selective fluorescent probe. It exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity for Cu2+ in ethanol–water solution (9:1, v:v, pH 7.0, 20 mM HEPES) and underwent ring opening. A prominent fluorescence enhancement at 570 nm was observed in the presence of Cu2+ with the change in the absorption spectrum, and a 1:1 metal–ligand complex was formed.

This paper describes the synthesis of a series of metal-free phthalocyanines and metallophthalocyanines peripherally substituted by macrocycles of different ring sizes with the same donor atom sets. The effects of varying ring size of the macrocycle on the spectroscopic and metal ion binding properties of phthalocyanines were examined. For these purposes, electronic absorption properties for metal-free phthalocyanines and metallophthalocyanines were studied in dimethylformamide and tetrahydrofuran.

In the current study, a simple and efficient analytical method for preconcentration and determination of Cd(II), Pb(II), and Sn(II) in some cosmetic samples, using ultrasonic assisted-cloud point extraction and flame atomic absorption spectrometry, was developed. The method is based on the ternary complex formations of Sn(II), Pb(II), and Cd(II), which are available in the form of neutral and/or anionic hydroxo complexes (Sn(OH)−3, Pb(OH)−3, Cd(OH)2, and/or Cd(OH)−3), with Victoria Pure Blue BO (VPB +) in the presence of cetylpyridinium chloride at pH 8.

The use of microalgae biomass is an alternative solution to the problem of environmental pollution due to heavy metals, one of which is Cr metal in leather tanning liquid waste. However, the ability of biomass to adsorb heavy metals has limitations. Therefore, the algal biomass is immobilized with silica gel in order to obtain a stable structure. This research aims to study the absorption efficiency of Cr (VI) metal by the biomass of Spirulina sp. which is immobilized with silica gel from the tannery liquid waste.

Domestic water system of Thai Nguyen city originates from Nui Coc lake which has an area of 25km2 . In fact, due to these original areas that have many metal mines, such as tin, lead, zinc, vonfram,..., the content of heavy metal in the water resource raises need for concern. Therefore, we evaluated the content of some elements: Cr, Mn, Cu, Cd, Pb, Hg in the water resource of Nui Coc lake, Tich Luong lake and the domestic water system of Thai Nguyen city to compare with the Vietnamese standard of maximum acceptable heavy metal content in drinking water.

An accurate, precise, and simple spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of the antithyroid drug carbimazole using ruthenium(III) chloride. This method is based on the formation at room temperature of a stable yellow-colored complex with λmax 370 nm. The method has a Beer’s law range of 7.81 to 1.95 × 10 2 µg mL−1, molar absorptivity coefficient ε = 1.519 × 103 L mol−1 cm−1, and correlation coefficient of 0.997. The metal:ligand (M:L) ratio of the complex was confirmed by the mole ratio and Job’s method of continuous variation, suggesting a 1:2 stoichiometry.
