Ebook "Late transition metal-carboryne complexes: Synthesis, structure, bonding, and reaction with alkenes and alkynes" shows in this thesis that transition metals can mediate or catalyze the cycloaddition or coupling reactions of carboryne with alkynes or alkenes to afford benzocarboranes, alkenylcarboranes or dihydrobenzocarboranes. These results represent powerful strategies to assemble useful complex molecules from very simple precursors in a single operation. Carboranes have many applications in medicine.

Carbon dots (CDs) are zero dimensional carbonaceous nanomaterials showing tremendous physicochemical and optical properties, synthesized from any organic precursors rich in carbon content. Due to their greater biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and tiny particle size up to 10 nm, CDs have numerous applications in the field of nano-sensing, bio-imaging, solar energy, light-emitting devices, photo-catalysis etc.

Keterite Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films were fabricated by spray pyrolysis deposition using aqueous precursor solutions with and without the addition of HCl. The effects of HCl on the crystallinity, morphology and photovoltaic properties of CZTS thin films were investigated. The results showed that the presence of HCl had significant effects on the crystal growth, grain size, and surface morphology of the fabricated CZTS thin films resulting in the improvement of the photovoltaic properties of the solar cell.

The aim of this study was to obtain and characterise thin metal organic frameworks layers supported on various metallic structured carriers such as FeCrAl plates and woven gauzes and NiCr foams. The thin layers of the metal organic frameworks were fabricated by in situ solvothermal deposition, optimised by the selection of metal precursor and the layering/washing order.

This study reports, for the first time, the fabrication of electrospun Cu 2 ZnSnS 4 (CZTS) nanofibers using metal acetate precursors. Viscous poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) solution containing acetate or chloride salts of copper, zinc, and tin was electrospun onto a conductive substrate. The PVP nanofibers that have a mixture of metal salts were annealed at elevated temperatures. After calcination, these nanofibers were treated with the sulfur source and then annealed again in order to generate CZTS nanofibers.

Our studies on the selective catalytic reduction of NO (SCR-deNO) properties of M/γ-Al2O3 (M = Mn, Co, Cu) nanocatalysts are presented. All catalysts were prepared by homogeneous deposition precipitation using urea as the precursor for the precipitating agent. The SCR activity followed the order Mn/γ-Al2O3 > Cu/γ-Al2O3 > Co/γ-Al2O3. The nanocatalysts were characterized with respect to their texture (N2-BET), particle size (TEM), reducibility (H2-TPR), and acidity (NH3-TPD).

Finding solutions to global issues like food security entails greater use of chemicals fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides etc. posing serious risks of soil salinity, heavy metal bioaccumulation. PGPR produce enzyme ACC deaminase which degrades (ACC) 1- aminocyclopropane-1-carobylic acid the immediate precursor of the plant growth hormone ethylene, into α-ketobutyrate and ammonia, thus lowering the level of ethylene in a developing or stressed plant. In the present study, three rhizobacterial strains were isolated from rhizospheric soil of mustard plant in Allahabad region.

Amorphous molybdenum sulfide (MoSx) is a highly active noble-metal-free electrocatalysis for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The MoSx was prepared by electrochemical deposition at room temperature. Low-cost precursors of Mo and S were adopted to synthesize thiomolybdates solution as the electrolyte.

Mesoporous carbons containing up to 3.6 at.% N and 4.4 at.% O and exhibiting graphitic character have been prepared from Ni(II) and Fe(II) phthalocyanines by direct pyrolysis or by HTC + pyrolysis, and subsequently applied as supercapacitor materials. No mesoporous templates or doping post-treatments were used, and the catalytic effect of Ni(II) and Fe(II), naturally present in the precursor molecules, allowed obtaining graphitic carbons at temperatures 900 C.

Manganese (Mn) is an essential heavy metal. However, Mn’s nutritional aspects are paralleled by its role as a neurotoxicant upon excessive exposure. In this review, we covered recent advances in identifying mechanisms of Mn uptake and its molecular actions in the brain as well as promising neuroprotective strategies.

The precursor PVP-capped α-NaYF4 :Yb3+/Er3+ nanospheres were used as the templates for preparing the α-NaYF4 :Yb3+/Er3+/PVP/MOFs multilayer nanocrystals with a self-template method. By using iron (III) carboxylate and zeolitic imidazolate frameworks dissolved in dimethylformamide (DMF) solution containing 25% of diethylene glycol (DEG), the sphericalshaped α-NaYF4 :Yb3+/Er3+/PVP/MIL-100 and α-NaYF4:Yb3+/Er3+/PVP/ ZIF-8 multilayer nanocrystals were successfully prepared with the sizes of 300-500 nm at 100o C for one hour.

LaMn0.5Cu0.5O3 was synthesized as nanoparticles with relatively high surface area (19 m2/g) at low temperature (600o C) from gel precursor prepared by using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and corresponding metal nitrates. Influence of pH, PVA/metals mole ratio and temperature of gel formation on the crystallization of perovskites was studied. Samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and BET (Brunaure-Emmet-Teller) measurements.

The oxide reduction diffusion (ORD) procedure has recently been applied in synthesizing hydrogen storage materials AB5 for Ni-MH batteries. Starting from metal hydroxides and La oxalat precursor, superfine powder alloys LaNi5, LaNi4.5Co0.5 and LaNi3.87Mn1.13 were obtained by this “soft-chemistry” route. Chemical composition, structure and morphology of alloy phases were examined by different analysis techniques such as AAS, EPMA, X-ray and TEM. The H2-absorption and desorption behavior of crystalline products was determined by Sieverts’ method.

Biosynthesis of hemed1, the essential prosthetic group of the dissimilatory nitrite reductase cytochromecd1 , requires the methylation of the tetrapyr-role precursor uroporphyrinogen III at positions C-2 and C-7. We pro-duced Pseudomonas aeruginosaNirE, a putativeS-adenosyl-l-methionine (SAM)-dependent uroporphyrinogen III methyltransferase, as a recombi-nant protein inEscherichia coliand purified it to apparent homogeneity by metal chelate and gel filtration chromatography.

Since chemical vapor deposition of carbon-containing precursors onto transition metals tends to develop as the preferred growth process for the mass production of graphene films, the deep understanding of its mechanism becomes mandatory. In the case of nickel, which represents an economically viable catalytic substrate, the solubility of carbon is significant enough so that the growth mechanism proceeds in at least two steps: the dissolution of carbon in the metal followed by the precipitation of graphene at the surface.
