  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant threat to human health globally. Diseases caused by AMR are getting more challenging to cure due to the increasing rate of resistance of microbial pathogens. Drugs formulated with antimicrobial peptide (AMP) can be applied to treat these diseases. AMPs are found naturally within organisms, especially amphibians, and is related to the high adaptability of defence mechanisms against various pathogens and predators in the environment.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of three commercial GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) products against six bacterial and one fungal strain, through the agar well diffusion method, determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC). Obtained results indicate strong antimicrobial effects of investigated extracts, with different microbial susceptibility, including the multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria.

  • Infants born prematurely, particularly extremely low birth weight infants (ELBW) have altered gut microbial communities. Factors such as maternal health, gut immaturity, delivery mode, and antibiotic treatments are associated with microbiota disturbances, and are linked to an increased risk of certain diseases such as necrotising enterocolitis. Therefore, there is a requirement to optimally characterise microbial profiles in this at-risk cohort, via standardisation of methods, particularly for studying the influence of microbiota therapies (e.g.

  • Pigments are the chemical substances that absorb the light of visible region. Pigments are compounds that are widely used in industries. Non-toxic nature of pigment produced by a number of microorganisms make them ecofriendly for utilization in dye, foodstuff, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and other industrial purpose. Industrial production of natural food colorants by microbial fermentation has several advantages such as cheaper production, easier extraction, higher yields through strain improvements, no lack of raw materials and season independent.

  • Increasing public concern about the potential damage of chemical inputs in agricultural production systems has challenged industry to develop new and effective pest management and control strategies against insect pests, diseases and weeds. These new strategies must be less harmful to the environment than the current, chemical-based ones, and they must also safeguard the health of agricultural workers and consumers.

  • Biofertilizer is immobile, an unclear term. It can simply be established that biofertilizers are identified as plant extracts, composted municipal waste, and various microbial mixtures with unidentified components and chemical fertilizer formulations supplemented with organic compounds. Likewise, the scientific literature has a very open interpretation of the term biofertilizer, on behalf of everything from fertilizers to plant extracts.

  • Phytochemicals are chemicals of plant origin, produced through primary or secondary metabolism of plants. Phytochemicals have become of great interest owing to their diverse applications. In the study five plant sources available locally and abundantly were selected to screen phytochemicals available in their leaves for testing their anti-microbial property for textiles. Leaf extracts were prepared using 70% ethanol and distilled water.
